A rule that says a ball grazing a post is a behind does nothing to make the game great. Though I agree with you in that it separates our sport from others in that it makes a billion dollar industry look amateurish, confusing to casual observers and sometimes devastating to a club's results. The rule change doesn't cover for incompetence, it removes ambiguity. There's no guarantee that throwing money at it going to fix the issue anyway as the updated cameras and snicko may still miss it

It's like the umpire bouncing the ball issue, where the purists both complained about the uniqueness of the game being ruined and also about bad bounces favouring the opposition. They changed the bounce rule and I would hazard a guess that not one person, turned away from the game as a result.

Only in this case, your recommendation would be that we put laser guided gyroscopes in the balls to compensate for the bad umpire bounce instead of just doing away with the antiquated mode of getting the ball in the air.

If you change the rule to allow the ball hitting the post but still going over the goal line to be a goal, the problem from last night is solved. No wasted money, no shade thrown at umpires. The game is improved and we all move on.
Let’s change all the rules. If a ball is touched before it goes through the goals, do what. It’s a goal.
This won’t improve our game

Solution for bouncing the ball? Change the ball to a round ball. This won’t improve our game.

You really don’t get it. We have the technology to fix the boundary line and goals issue NOW.
Soccer use it. Cricket use it. We are amateurish because we won’t spend the money.
We are not rugby, soccer, basketball, netball.
We are Australian Rules Football, with our unique rules, which make our game great. We just need to use the technology to rid us of incorrect decisions, just like all other sports in the world have adopted technology. Not continue in an amateur world.

I feel like people should wait for next year before getting too excited about Hawthorn

I feel there'd be a decent element of "playing with freedom "about Hawthorn last month or so.

I'd be more confident in their ability to rise if this kind of form continued into the first month of next year when the expectation inevitably comes.

Which decisions are close is still subjective though, so you have the same problem. This umpire was confident it was a point so didn't call for a review. The game then restarted too quickly for the ARC to get involved.

Sure a mistake was made, just like umpires make many other mistakes, I don't quite get the outrage.
Such a big goal in the context of the game. Surely you get it reviewed to be safe.

Will probably cost him his job.

You'd have to think Bevo is in trouble.
Grossly underperformed with the list he has. Never coached the team to a top 4 finish, but has snagged a flag and another GF appearance from the bottom half of the eight.
That flag was 2016 and should have done better since.

Let me know when we're at the point that we can review the gamut of AFL umpire decisions without interrupting the game and you'll get my vote. But I'm not a fan of the current silliness where we review whether a kick was touched off the boot when it's a direct goal but not when it results in a mark that leads to a goal.
SR, we are only talking about boundary line and goal line/goal post decisions here. We have the technology. It can be instantaneous. Why not use it.
I can live with those field umpire decisions for now, because we don’t have any means of making this area better today.
Anyway, if Collingwood lose another GF because of an incorrect goal or boundary line decision, I will hunt you down.
I will grab you by the scruff of your neck, and take you to Eddie. And tell him YOU are the reason we lost that GF.
Then when he is finished with you, I will take you to Maynard and tell him the same thing. 😏🤓😎
Be warned. Lololol
