The West Coast Eagles Board met this morning for an informal discussion at the home of Chairman Paul Fitzpatrick.

The club remains firm on its position that no decisions have been made around the future of any staff members and that none of those key decisions will be made until after the season.

Our club is focused on celebrating the careers of three champions – Shannon Hurn, Luke Shuey and Nic Naitanui – at our final match of the season against Adelaide at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.

For a side well in their premiership window they were huge failures. Or do we only get one year in our window? No excuses for covid what so ever. Just weak as piss by the entire club and very sooky lala.
West Coast’s history shows that we have trouble backing up from premiership success.

Maybe we were tottering in 2019 but Rioli’s madness killed us off that year.

2020 was the first Covid year which we didn’t handle well. Should’ve still won the final against Collingwood.

2021 - injuries and the list imbalance began to hit us. I don’t know why we crumbled in the second half of the year.

2022 - obviously messed up Covid management, crazy year including playing WAFL players.

2023 - insane injury list, no club would compete with the injuries we have had. Collingwood are stumbling with injuries to key players.

Five years of relative failure for which Simpson must bear significant responsibility although he is not in charge of the medical and fitness departments, or even recruiting.

There is a lot to learn from all this. The club has tended to become arrogant and let standards slip after we win the premiership.
The 100 point beltings this year have been extremely painful and embarrassing.
I have been thinking, especially after last week, Simpson just has to go.
After yesterday, which is one of the club’s great victories, I wonder if he shouldn’t get one more year with performance indicators. I don’t expect to be anywhere near the eight but there must be an upward trend from this year and an overall increased competitiveness.

A number of young to not so young players have shown significant development in their games this year - BWiliams, Jones, Petrucelle, Ginbey, Hewett, Long, Maric, Hough, JWilliams, even Chesser is gradually improving.
There are green shoots, it’s not totally bleak.

Assume this is meant to get ahead of the West's usual doomsday reporting
This statement is a whole lot of nothing. basically saying "yes you saw us having a private meeting, no we are not telling you what it was about"
As an alternative theory maybe they are making moves against King Nissie and not Simmo?

With the Board meeting as frequently as they are.. something is up.

They’ve got some big decisions to make. It’s not often discussions are required on the tenure of both coach and CEO - hasn’t happened at WCE this century

For once the board are going to be required to earn their keep

That said, it’s extremely stalker like behaviour for the West to be camped out in front of Fitzpatrick’s house on the off chance the board turn up on a Monday morning

Ha releasing a statement that says we have no statement

Needed to be done and should have been done last week tbh

A decision isn’t going to be made this week and even if it was they won’t be announcing it until next week.

The club quite rightly want the focus to be the retirements of three of our legends and not reports from cameraman hiding in bushes

Agree, and I respect the club waiting until the end of season, and not giving in to the media witchhunt - but my immediate thought when I saw a "Club Statement" was that Simmo or Niz had been let go

They may not have been camped out there. Simmo was poking around asking about his job security and that found its way straight into the media. Reports of a board divide between whether he stays or goes may not be exaggerated. It seems to be the accepted code of conduct to white ant footy people through the media.

Personally I thought Simmo looked and sounded like he had already been told yesterday in that press conference. I hope that's not the case but it's the vibe I was getting.

The board meeting regularly seems appopriate at the moment and things are changing quickly. After yesterday and considering the cost of paying Simmo out I do think sticking with him for 2024 is more viable. Nisbett's position would depend on when a suitable candidate to replace him appears, you would think. Now that it's basically known that he will finish up next year (if he's not pushed sooner) there could be movement from others who might be interested in that job I guess.

This is hour 57 of our live, round-the-clock coverage outside the Fitzpatrick estate. Remember, by the way, to tune in at eight o'clock for highlights of today's vigil, including when the garbage man came, and when Justin Langer put the cat out... possibly because it was sacked, we don't know.

Of course, there's no way to see into the Fitzpatick home without some kind of infrared heat-sensitive camera. So let's turn it on!

Now, this technology is new to me, but I'm pretty sure that's Adam Simpson in the oven, rotating slowly. His body temperature has risen to over 400 degrees - he's literally stewing in his own juices.

"Adam Simpson is believed to sleep nude in an oxygen tent, which he believes gives him sexual powers"

This is not normal. The board traveled with the team when we played Essendon for annual regular planning meeting in Melbourne, and now have traveled to Melbourne again, reportedly to work through financial implications of potentially sacking Simpson.

Stay or go with Simmo. I have flip-flopped to and fro on this. Now, I am on the 'keep him' wagon. I view footy as war - when one army is assembled with a full armoury, and the other is limping to the battle lines with its weapons destroyed, there's only going to be one result. Unfortunately, we have been that 2nd army for most of the last 2 years, and no coach could have got any better results.
Load up in the draft, and go again next year.

So makes you wonder where the leak is doesn’t it?

Shouldn’t be too hard…

Informal meetings at private residence probably don’t get the whole office CC’d in.

My prime suspects are Fitzpatrick’s EA or Justin Langer’s partner, which I assume is still Matthew Hayden?
Board definitely has more holes than the titanic right now.
So many leaks.
Maybe this meeting was to try and flush out those leakers?

Just sent the club an e-mail letting them know my thoughts.
Only way I can vent a little.
Did you end up getting a reply?
I also sent them an Email and got a response just now. Will post it below as it was interesting to read.
Some context, my email was sent prior to the win so we had pick 1 at the time. Basically expressed dissatisfaction with the board and the word that Simmo would be sacked after they publicly backed going down this path and supported him. Also suggested not being dumb and just pick Reid (lol).
