Do child memberships count in the annual tally?

The Bullfrogs are at my kid's primary school today & we received notification that any student who wanted a 4 game child membership for free only had to ask & fill out a basic form!

I presume North might do something similar, although I'm guessing the catchment area is smaller than literally every other club!

I believe the kind you're talking about here don't count, no.

Here in lies the issue with membership numbers.

it is not clear what is counted and what is not.

We have 50k members but we get around 20k to a home game. So we have 30k members who either frequently don';t go or when tallying memberships we have some sort of special calculator that you plug 20k into and it spits out 50k.

you can say that Tassie members would be unlikely to attend Melbourne games but even then you are only looking at 6k, and if you bump the attendance figure up by that we're still missing half our memberships attending games.

this is a long way of saying, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the parameters for counting a membership was:
  • issued by the club
  • grants access to a game

No club gets all their members to games. There's a reason why Collingwood don't want to play GWS, GC, Fremantle etc at home and it's not because they're willing to concede the advantage of not having 100k+ of their own members at the game out of the goodness of their hearts. It's because like all (VIC) clubs they rely on opponents turning up and traditional Vic rivalries.

All that realistically matters is profit from those members and total supporters / match attendees.

Yeah, it’s all “Magpie Army” and “19th man” and “sold out” this season but when they aren’t top of the ladder and they get our fixture - Sunday twilight v Gold Coast - only a third of their members show up too.

The difference is the starting point - which is obviously a big difference in pure numbers - plus the fact that they simply don't have to play these teams as often. We would have played at least 30%+ more games against the most recent teams than Collingwood.

I’m a member but didn’t use my membership to get into a single game this year - borrowed a family member’s Medallion Club pass. Would’ve looked like I stopped going to games this year to the club

Are you comparing a Social Club reserved seat vs a Social Club bay membership?

Because either way the costs you guys are listing are different from what's on the website:

I am only reading on my phone and saw the Invoice so need to get on and print/read the whole shit show

But regardless, my card is expired so they can’t debt it, but I am amazed that it just comes through as it does.

Don't be so sure about this; expired cards can still be charged for a grace period after expiry, if it was a recurring/ongoing payment.

My grand daughter has a no game membership and every year it gets automatically upgraded to an 11game membership. So every year we have to ring the club to get them to put it back.
Happens to one of my family members too.

Was sitting here all smug about having had no email about issue with my membership, just checked my account and the seats I've had for 6 or so years have gone up $240 a year each.

Had a conclusion to this one yesterday, a very friendly chat with one of our lovely membership reps and she was very quick to explain the oddity (I'd been on a weird unadvertised package for about five years that was only exposed as last year was post covid promos) and was offered a very reasonable standard price increase to hold my seats. I can say I've never had a poor conversation with the employees of our club.

I remember calling last yr and they told me I was on a non advertised package too... sounds similar. Said was still paying a pre Covid price and if I changed I'd lose that pricing.... circa 460/yr level 2 aisle 34... so expecting to lose that this yr then

Yes and during Covid when I continued to pay despite not being able to attend!

Complete farce!
