Yes,I remember that game, althiugh I’ve tried to forget it.I wasn’t at the ground, but I remember people who were there saying how flat the atmosphere was that day.It was almost as if the supporters knew what was about to happen.
It was so bad when the GWS crowd echoed over the whole ground, and we were mices.

I'm not sure why they hate him so much. Though to be fair they have lost 4 home finals in 7 years.

They had their chances in the last quarter did Port. Kicking 1.9 to GWS 2.0 ain't winning you games of footy. If they kicked straight, Kenny may have had a finals win at home....

Who failed bigger this season, Melbourne or Port?

Port held top two for a big chunk of the season. Dropped when it counted and missed their home Qualifying Final.

Their form slump was exactly that, a form slump.

Melbourne had huge expectation on them to not repeat 2022. Top 4 finish. Took better form into the finals but fell apart in the finals and out in straight sets.

Hard to pick.

Definitely Melbourne failed bigger … gone out in straight sets two years in a row.

Port by contrast had gone from 11th in 2022, to talking about sacking their coach after round 2, to getting to a home QF whilst unearthing a bunch of excellent young players. They’ve had a very good season, over-achieved from where everybody tipped them, and have a bright future. Of course Port fans won’t see it that way.

Same reason many of us wanted to sack Buckley.

Been there too long without a Premiership.

I wonder if the flowers Kosi gave Cripps made it to the Vase

Cripps doesn’t want flowers, he’s too busy pretending all that blood was from an overly picked nose. And Weitering was merely testing out some new dance moves…

They seem to have a genuine and visceral hatred for Kenny though. I guess Kenny wasn't a favourite son like Bucks but still, you'd think he'd won them 5 spoons by the level of anger and contempt they have toward him.

Uncle Kochie most certainly is not a popular man amongst Port fans either.

I see you like to lurk too😀.
They are a funny bunch over there. I was reading their board back when they were flying and on their winning streak. The thing that really struck me was that they were all still hating on Kenny and being negative about their finals hopes even as they were winning game after game.

The consensus seemed to be that their winning streak was a bad thing because it made it more likely Kochie would extend Kenny and that they'd be out of finals in straight sets anyway. Gotta give it to them... They knew exactly how it was going to pan out.

I remember when Hinkley was being a smart arse in his presser before playing us. Can't say I'm disappointed they went out in straight sets.

“They are the best team in the competition. They have said that themselves publicly. July is a good time to be ranked one.” Ken Hinkley

Did anyone in the press conference ask Ken if it’s still a good time to be ranked one in September?

IMO …

It’s about expectations setting.

When Hinkley/Koch came to Port, they were an utter basket case of a club. There was serious talk of them handing their license back.

Hinkley had a very similar start to what Fly has had and quickly turned it around. Then the expectations set in - they were a proud club there to win Premierships. Which they haven’t done.

Some may see that as a good approach - I think most neutrals would consider that over the Hinkley journey Port Adelaide have generally over-achieved. Nobody tipped them to go from 11th last season to 3rd this season.

But there is more to being a supporter than your team winning games of footy. It’s not much fun being a supporter when you feel empty after a win (because it was expected) and rotten after a loss (because it wasn’t). That’s where Port fans are at, and have been for a while.

As for Collingwood, Fly hasn’t even coached 50 games yet, we were 17th when he took over, and the club have largely refrained from setting any public expectations. Let’s see if we can hold onto that. And of course actually winning Premierships does get some breathing space, as we see with Adam Simpson.

i like how everyone believes that the doctors at all the clubs would never make compromises....

When Laura Kane said after the Brayshaw / Maynard incident that the AFL will review the rules post season, there’s a far greater likelihood that they’ll be adding an independent doctor to the umpiring crew than anything that’ll outlaw a player smothering the football.
