Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

If you're recruiting manager you don't get fired for taking a 180cm plus player that busts at number 4. But you probably get fired for taking a 170cm player that busts at 4.

Our recruitment team’s advice will be highly respected, but Sam will get the final say I reckon.

Edit: added f3 to trade.

So KL shared that we rejected dees offer of 4,62,63 for 6,11,42. The problem with that deal is 42 isn’t much use to us given McCabe and already having 3 x 40s picks. It would certainly make matching McCabe and dear an absolute formality.
Instead I would keep 63, drop 42 and have dees add their f2 and f3. This would allow us to also trade our f1 now or in the future. Or having 2 f2 picks could allow us to trade up the order with one of the clubs with a first round bid match.
Hawks 2023: 6,11,44,47,49,63
Hawks 2024: f1,f2(pies),f2(dees),f3(dees) - I call these picks the double Stephen May death ride!

Osullivan Wilson McCabe Dear for me. Remember we only really have 4 list spots with the commitment to wingard and stephens.
Unfortunately the main reason we haven't entertained any offers from Melbourne were their reluctance to include any future picks in any of their deals with us.

Maybe a third or fourth party involved if we use dees 42 plus say 47/49 for suns 27 then on trade that to eagles with 63 for 37 and their f3. Eagles want another top 25 pick but their 37/58 this year isn’t getting them that.
Hawks
6,11,37,44 in 2023 (37,44 match McCabe at 16)
F1,f2(pies),f3(eagles) in 2024

Everyone needs to do themselves a favour and read through Caleb Daniel's draft write ups, as he is the only fair comparison to Watson in the past 10 years.

All the tools to be a star, elite skills, elite endurance, above average speed - he dominated inside and impacted forward, and showed more versatility than Watson has so far. His U18 year he dragged SA across the line in their final 2 matches, one against a Petracca led Vic Metro's side where he had 21 disposals @ 86% efficiency, a monster 217 rating points. Kicked 3 goals from the midfield, dobbed a monster one from outside 50.

He slid to the third round, which was very clearly much too late for him to be picked up, but it also was vindicated in a way because despite all the talent in the world height has clearly been a massive limitation for him. If he were 20cm taller he'd be one of the best players in the AFL, but he's not and he has been pigeon holed as a half back for his entire career.

It is a genuine concern that similar will happen to Watson, which is a particular risk given we wouldn't be getting him for a bargain like the Dogs did with Daniel.

A relevant, contemporary reference? No that simply won’t do. Are you sure you can’t make a comparison to a 165cm squash prodigy from the 60s?

They’re not close to being the same player other than height.

That is really not a nice way to refer to vertically challenged people.

Being 1cm taller than the Wiz I couldn’t be more objective! We slightly below average heighted men will no longer be silent and are reclaiming and empowering the slur ‘squash’.

The whole crux of the argument is height, or lack thereof, putting a lower ceiling on a player who otherwise has very draftable traits though. So it’s the closest any comparison has come.

Love it. Go you.

Not sure it is.
I'd suggest a certain Diego Maradona holds that mantle.

Come back to me if Messi ever achieves what Diego did with Napoli. The modern equivalent would be going to a mid-table team in the EPL, say West Ham, and leading them to two league titles.
Maradona was 5 foot 5... Def would have been a draft steal

Page 200 - how appropriate. This will be my last post for a while since I'm going on some leave. I'll leave you with the following information.
1. Our offer to Eagles is still there and hasn't officially been rejected (though not many doubt it will be).
2. We believe (good signs so far) we'll be able to do a pick swap on the night with another team which if it is accepted will mean we'll be going for one of Caddy, O'Sullivan, Leake or Wilson.

That's all. To those that have believed me I had done most of the trades paperwork and it's now up to other staff to do the drafts paperwork whilst I take a (hard earned) sabbatical. To those that haven't believed me, my mum has kicked me out of her basement made me put some clothes on and confiscated my computer :)

It's been fun. See you in a few weeks.

Enjoy your well earned break. In spite of having some sceptics your posts have provided great entertainment to the Hypo thread.

The only upside I see is they have trade targets next season and they need some assets to get it done.
But everyone points out you can just pick purchase and use future picks for trades.

Obviously trading out our future 1st this year would make it close to impossible to trade in an A grader next year.

Has anyone established the most important 2 things about whether we draft him though?
1. Who does he support?
2. Precisely, how big are his hands?

So it’s Wilson we are chasing with the pick swap?
Putting him last is not going to put me off the scent!
After going throw all your posts I think we are taking Watson with our first aswell you seem to leave him till last aswell?
Please don’t go on leave what am I going to read on here now ?
Dwight Shrutt over ant out aswell.
Thank you Keeper Leager!

Happy with whoever we choose.

But if we want Curtain, lets go all in.

  • Trade 4 to Dee’s for 6 & 11 (and other swaps as needed)
  • Trade F1 to Cats for 8 (and whatever else needed)

Take 6, 8, 11.

6: Curtain
8: Caddy
11: Windsor/Wilson etc
Then McCabe in the teens.

Only trade with dees once Duursma/McKercher off the board. And obviously we can trade with cats regardless of Dees move.
Really????????
