We obviously think there is a drop off after 12/think someone we rate really highly will be available, but I can’t really fathom why we’d do that trade. 12 doesn’t really seem to put us into that sweet spot.

Or maybe we like someone else even higher, who we might be able to get with 12 + 15?

I'd hope we'd pick up 1 or 2 very late 2nd rounders or early 3rd round picks in the process too.

Get rid of 57.

In any given phantom draft, between 35 - 45, there is usually a couple of Dawson, Green, Jiath, Morris, A Reid, Edwards, etc still available - the kind of players I could see us reaching for with our current first rounders anyway.

You could throw Archer Reid in anywhere there, just couldn't see us grabbing him over Murphy or Collard.

I would love this as a bombers fan, I imagine you’d consider west coasts pick for next year though but I would keep the pick tbh.

Maybe there isn’t anyone obvious because that’s not why we want the pick. 12 could be a stepping stone to something else. Hell, WC might have told us they’d do 2+12 for 1. Or we might be after GWS, or Essendon’s pick.

Either way Monday is gonna be very interesting.

While this potential swap has been made public by Beatson, North won't just be eyeing off 12, they'll be discussing trading up with other clubs to get even higher in the draft. It's all about having multiple scenarios ready in case a player they want is still available.

Just as general examples, if we take Duursma at the top end, moving up for O'Sullivan could become the goal. If we take Curtin, trading up for Caddy might be what they're aiming for. They could also be eyeing off Leake as a smart defender who is also best mates with McKercher. In terms of 12 specifically, it's likely a scenario where they've been unsuccessful getting higher but a desired player who isn't high on Sydney's board slips unexpectedly.
