Im hoping Stk are looking at moving up to P2 to grab Lalor (who our head recruiter is keen on apparently), would our 7+27 be close enough?
Um, no! o_O If you guys want one of the elite six and I'll say it differently, YOUR CHOICE {bar one player}, SO ONE OF THE ELITE FIVE THEN EVEN THOUGH ITS A DEEP DRAFT, IT'LL COST YOU GUYS PICKS 7 AND 8. Lots of people have said the same thing, no-one will do this because its such an even and deep draft, and that's all fare and well but what lots of people are forgetting is that top six are very very good and you guys need an elite mid not a good player or serviceable player, now you have the picks to get that done, but I guess in this deep draft you can take two good players and be satisfied but wont have that young bonafide star mid, "You've gotta ask the question, do you feel lucky, saints? Well do ya?

I do not feel lucky and have never done with our esteemed drafting history…

I’d do 7,8 for 2,24. Think 7,8 for just 2 is probably too steep but certainly agree with you! Nth hold the cards and if we want someone bad enough, which I do, we should pony up

Would Lalor be considered a legitmate pick #2, or a slightish reach ?
Huge potential, probably the most of any mid in this years draft, gets fitter, gets his endurance up to the level required as well as other things improving, in my eyes, he is no reach for pick two, he's a very big contender for pick two.

If we had 7&8, this is what my draft board would look like:

1.Ashcroft
2.Lombard
3.Kako
4.Armstrong (Melbourne @5)
5.Smith (Richmond @1)
6.Draper (WC @3)
7.FOS (ADE @4)
8.Lalor (StK @2)
9.Tauru
10.Berry
11.Hannaford
12.Murphy (GC @6)
13.Smillie (ESS @9)
14.Trainor
15.Hotton
16.Whitlock.
17.Shanahan
18.Allan
19.Lindsay
20. Dattoli
The best FF in the comp isn’t in your top 20?? Gerreyn is the best FF in the comp. No questions, no bullshit. He is the man!! He’ll kick 800 goals EASY

Genuine question, not having a go either way - what don’t you like about FOS?
The fact that he never put together a good game in his senior year is what I don't like about him and there's the fact we already have so much capital invested in mids.

If we have 2 x busts at pick 2 and 3, our perennial rebuild will be set back another year or two...

More than that, with Tassie coming

I'm not seeing what others are in Armstrong from limited viewing. Nowhere near draft year Harry McKay, JUH or Walter imo.

Maybe need to dive deeper.
The ocean is very very deep, in the aquatic circle of life, you haven't even scratched the surface or should I say the depths!
The other thing is that people must remember its not what players are doing now because that's only part of it, its what there going to do, hence the word potential. ;)

He's a gun perfect fit for North Melbourne we have no one like him on our list..if he'd played a full season this year clear no1. I do like the potential of lalor.we will get someone decent for sure

Without knowing too much, Lalor seems like such a risk, especially when Smith seems like an utter certainty to be midfield gun.

For those in the know, could you explain to me how Lalor has leap-frogged over others at this later stage?
Maybe he hasn't leapfrogged anyone, maybe he's been up there all along. ;)

Shanahan is the KPF to target which I’ve been saying for months now

He has proven impact at vfl level also against the bigger bodies
And you are sure to keep repeating it ad nauseam up until draft day, when he invariably gets drafted to another team. Then we can look forward to many years of you b1ching about how we should have drafted him because your Nostril powers sniffed him out.

He didn't play a single game this season that screamed clear #1.

Very underwhelming senior year. He's the 2nd biggest gamble of the draft behind Hotton.

My guess would be several reasons:

  • Lalor arguably has the highest ceiling of all the top rated draftees.
  • They will have a swathe of first round picks, they can either trade up and get another top rated mid they are keen on (Smith/FOS/Draper/Langford), or sit back and pick whoever slides.
  • They are odds on to finish bottom next year. They could end up with picks 1 & 2 in 2025 if Balta leaves as a free agent, allowing them access to the best mid (probably Sharp), and a gun KPP.

Damn straight

Or we pick him and we all enjoy me being correct as per usual

Just seen his highlights all level’s including VFL . Definitely has to be our first pick. It’s what we are craving for . 194cm KPF that can take a grab , has good skills when the ball hits the deck & is a beautiful long kick for goal.
His ruck tap work is very good too .,

If you looked at it that you were really trading 7 and Battle for 2 then maybe there'd be some thought for you guys but I can really see you just taking the two best available mids there. Could be a real slider there.

At that, I'd like the idea of your trade, the second pick would end up being a fair one to send back.

Saw this and thought it was worth posting for perspective

2013 draft camp testing

Marcus Bontempelli
20m sprint - 3.20
Agility - 8.59

Patrick Cripps
20m sprint - 3.23
Agility - 8.57

Armstong (Matty) @ 7
Shanahan (Jamie) @ 8
Hannaford (Mil) @ 22
Hotton (Trent) @ 40

We could all rest easily for at least 6 months knowing we have nicknames and potentially our forward half sorted for a while!
