Saw the Hipgnosis doco Squaring the Circle a month or so ago. Was directed by Anton Corbijn who was a photographer for NME back in the day before turning his hand to directing music videos and later films (including Control which was a pretty good movie about Ian Curtis).

As much as everyone probably thinks their dog can sniff and track someone those dogs who do it for a job have pretty damn extensive training and it’s for a reason.

It’s just as likely your average German Shepard is gonna rattle off on the trail of a dozen different animals / highway trash that takes their interest as just lock into a single scent and track that for hours.

The police Labrador drug/ munitions dogs get 12 weeks training. They just stick shit they want them to find in a jar with a few holes in it & reward them when they find it. It’s a surprisingly simple.
The shepherds get about 24 weeks training.

The police shepherds are amazing & once they lock onto your scent you are done for.
My current shepherd has had no training & one morning, when he was about 18 months old, he spotted a couple of blonde kids messing around at the back of the neighbours car. About an hour later we went for a walk & I noticed they had busted open the fuel latch on the car & my dog bolted up the street in the direction the kids had run, dragging me about 2km through the backstreets straight to their house where they were playing on the front lawn with their nifty fifty type motorcycle. They were obviously trying to steal petrol for their bike & they bogged themselves when they saw me and the beast.
When we go bush we play the same game with him. One of us will bolt off into the bush and hide then we release the beast & it takes him a minute or two to find you. He loves it & when he finds you he playfully trounces you.
We run up creeks & then backtrack to try to fool him & it might slow him but he always gets his mark. The coppers call em land sharks for good reason.

On a totally unrelated note I was a tad bemused to see Taylor Swift win times person of the year award. Peak idiocracy.
Privileged white chick from the champagne set, who can’t sing or dance half as well as her black back up singers, winning such an award shows how sick & misguided society has become.
