I feel like we flog a word like woke & it's connotation becomes so broad it's ultimately meaningless.

Lose yourself by Eminem is more than two weeks old and begins with a guitar riff.True.
You could be 12 and record your first song tomorrow & if it's got a guitar solo you've made your first Dad Rock song.
What's your actual point?Wonder how many turn up to this
I'm sure a bunch of whities getting a new date for a national day will sort em out but

I think to more people than what everyone here realises, changing the date doesn't change how a lot of people feel about Aus day and that number of people is growing, and I'm a little shocked it is being dismissed by everyone, when I'm one of the least socially progressive around here but the only one acknowledging this. Most think change the date and call stumps, and that the abolish crowd are, well I dunno, not something they are willing to to articulate, but not people they agree with. What's your actual point?
Every year you spout this stuff as if we think changing the date is going to reduce the gap or solve indigenous people's issues
Stop being such a contrarian ninny
cromI feel like we flog a word like woke & it's connotation becomes so broad it's ultimately meaningless.
It's become the worst four letter word in the english speaking world.
Yes but nobody actually thinks it's "change the date and call stumps" except for youI think to more people than what everyone here realises, changing the date doesn't change how a lot of people feel about Aus day and that number of people is growing, and I'm a little shocked it is being dismissed by everyone, when I'm one of the least socially progressive around here but the only one acknowledging this. I don't believe in pointless change or moving sideways. I do believe based on the current situation, a date change is a sugar hit of social justice that will not last long at all before the same awkward sentiment kicks up again. I don't know how this country arrives at a point where we can have a national day to be proud of and unified by, that doesn't consist of demonstrations and protest against the very concept of Australia.

I still can't get past that we closed the only automaker that paid tribute to Aboriginal culture in the world, so we could drive the whittest vehicles in the world. It is interesting that there are so many awesome and embraced place names all around Oz that have indigenous roots yet we can't seem to get past this fairly minor impass

obviously there are many other bigger issues that still need to be addressed. It is however relatively easy and a symbolic gesture (much like Rudd's apology many years ago) which, while it may not have fixed anything tangible, it's at the very least a recognition and removes it from the debate. Much like constitutional recognition would've been
But no, you have to take a relentlessly opposing position ignoring all logic and sense
I think you're vastly overestimating the prevalence of the 'abolish Australia Day' movement. If it had more than, say, 5% support among Australians I'd be shocked.I think to more people than what everyone here realises, changing the date doesn't change how a lot of people feel about Aus day and that number of people is growing, and I'm a little shocked it is being dismissed by everyone, when I'm one of the least socially progressive around here but the only one acknowledging this.
