Now I don't know WHAT to believe?

Haha, hard work isn't it End of the day we can't really ever know. Foley looked like a dud in his first few games then turned out to be insanely fast and a gun.

My take is based on Caesar from Punt Road End saying Sonsie looked amazing and had had a body transformation. Despite this, watching him in the match sim...

• Yes it's just an internal sim and he was being played not in the midfield, but he looked pretty average.
• Despite this transformation that Caesar has noticed up close, he looked the same to me, still slow, still a bit of a waddle to him.
• Appears to possess no explosiveness and isn't blessed with any decent top speed either.
• Is very light and small, I walked past him late 2023 and, although I'm around 188 or 189, I felt like I towered over him.

Just not sure what traits he will have to propel him into being a quality AFL midfielder. I made a call about my expectations/predictions for 2024 a month or so ago and one was Sonsie establishing himself as a quality AFL midfielder, albeit with questions to remain on his explosiveness. I almost want to take back the entire prediction now, I just don't see it at all.

Anyway, certainly hope I'm wrong!

Sonz just has to be explosive with his footy use...not be explosive with movement! Part of him is explosive...that being his fist!

why not give it a try, Rioli having midfield minutes. showed he can play forward and back. certainly has speed and f50 delivery as qualities. he's ankle would have been a factor last year but after a brilliant month of footy oppositions started tagging him. move him around and at least find out. give oppositions something new to look at and utilise the strength of our players

who would have predicted laird and Dawson becoming quality midfielders as an example.

he would certainly give spurts of speed in centre square stoppages when matched with Taranto and hopper.

Daniel Rioli with McAuliffe would make great wingman

Agree. "Bombing" the ball (ie get it outta here) anywhere on the paddock is criminally stupid. Our smarter players (Meat, Bakes) will shift the ball ~ 3-10 metres where they will have a better chance of avoiding a turnover

Teams do not set up well for "toe pokes" and the like.

I need to see more however I think the motive behind quick entry is less about precision more about it doesn’t allow for oppo to setup and get numbers back ,,, smalls can really feast before the traffic arrives . Curious how this plays out v real oppo as Melb strength is their work behind the ball . Let’s go

What a ridiculous post. Who cares what the bookies are saying before the season has even started. Every year there is a surprise team if not two or three, especially in the first half of the year. None of those games are certainties and I wouldn’t be surprised if we started 3-2 or even 4-1. This team is still good, just needs some reinvigoration like the pies with fly. What was it, a 4 year down patch for the pies after make 2018 granny?
