The non calls were hard to take particularly when Geelong were getting frees in their forward 50 like Miers in the opening stages

yes, thats the angle we should be pushing. Miers led with his head and got rewarded. Absolute bullshit. The non calls were hard to take particularly when Geelong were getting frees in their forward 50 like Miers in the opening stages
He's a walking headline. Love it.
Been happening to Ginnivan for years. Umpires have an agreement among themselves not to pay him head high free kicks. It's pathetic.
One year ago...
Nothings changed
The AFL do not want to pay these and have Ginni kick 40 in a year.
It's been massively toned down and quite rightly so. To be fair there were plenty of instances where we could of got done like when in the 1st Hardwick gave away a free kick and then argued with the umpire that he didn't even hit him in the head (I think he even pointed to the replay on the screen). 100% would of been done when the AFL was going hard with it.where did dissent go. Hawkins had a couple of prolonged hand waving whinges!!
And David KingGood to hear Dwayne Russell going into bat for Ginnivan
Hang on - he wasn’t getting these sort of frees back in 2022…..and still kicked 40 for the year.Nothings changed

Given CTE isn’t correctly diagnosed prior to death I’m happy to wait for as long as he lives. Can't wait for Ginni to sue the s**t out of the AFL if he ever has CTE issues in the future. Clearly hasn't received any protection and the head is not sacrosanct.
His eyes are offsiiiiide
It's just crazy that they have these rules and not long ago it was "arms up is dissent" and 50s being paid. To then Hawkins carrying on like crazy yesterday after clearly giving away a free kick. It's been massively toned down and quite rightly so. Laura Kane of the AFL contacted the HFC today and said their umpires got it wrong yesterday. Particularly Ginnivan. It's just crazy that they have these rules and not long ago it was "arms up is dissent" and 50s being paid. On Ginnivan, The AFL trained all these young players who grew up with Selwood doing it for 20 years and fans, media and players complained about his ducking and the umpires just kept paying it and said tackle better for YEARS it went on with the most obvious ducks, so much so that everytime he got a free you could see the frustration on the tackler knowing they did nothing wrong.
Now because a guy has admitted to practising it 2 years ago he never gets a free for the most blatant high tackles. I was saying this when he was at Collingwood, either change the rules or pay the frees.
i dont mind if umpires miss a call, it happens in a big, fast, congested game.Laura Kane of the AFL contacted the HFC today and said their umpires got it wrong yesterday.
It's not really umpiring at that point. It's getting involved in the contest.i dont mind if umpires miss a call, it happens in a big, fast, congested game.
but when they deliberately pick and choose when they pay certain stuff based on the player's rep, that to me is unacceptable
20% of Selwood's kicks came from free kicks, compared to a normal inside mid like Sam Mitchell which sits at 10%.Would Joel Selwood have had anywhere near the success he had as a player if he wasn't ever paid a head high free after ducking for the first 12 months? They often came at pretty handy moments for him and his club.
It's a question that needed asking or at least suggesting in the commentary booth during this game, but no-one was willing to rib him about it.
Silence was absolutely deafening, as others have mentioned.
It's fine to contact the club, but will they admit that publicly? As no player should ever be adjudicated differently.Laura Kane of the AFL contacted the HFC today and said their umpires got it wrong yesterday.
