We've got Geelong looking like He-men out there and we keep building our list full of greyhounds and wonder why we keep getting smashed in the contest.

Our seeming focus on building lightly framed endurance athletes when teams full of big, powerful units like Melbourne and Geelong continue to win premierships has driven me nuts for a while now.

I know we have a young list but even our senior players are not exactly bursting with muscles.

Big, strong units grind out the wins you need to make finals. It's a simple as that.

Based on the last season and this , CMac , ward , Nash, Mitch Lewis , Impey, Reeves , Morrison are list cloggers and are not the standard of a top 8 team.

Ive have been in denial in thinking that they good players ,maybe hoping that they are .

Goes to show that our new recruits have showed more than the above.

Then chuck in Bruest and Gunston who are cooked , thats nearly half the regular 1st team players that are no up to it . Pretty sad watching blokes wearing the Hawthorn jumper that seem to not give a ****.

Our defensive midfield setup is a mess , its more obvious when watching at the ground than on the Telly

No doubt we will have spurts of brilliance which will give us hope but good teams dont make simple decision making errors on a constant basis , most of the time by our senior players

Rant over , love the club but im now mentally preparing myself for the Schwabby years, its gunna be tough going to the G but i will till i die

I dont understand the comparison of our list to North or WCE.
Our list goes to show that going to the draft is not "the" solution. Rebuilds are dam hard. North, WCE are on their 4th or 5th iteration and are still at the bottom. Carlton, Melbourne and Brisbane are 10 year rebuilds. Gone are the days of 2-4 year list regenerations.

Both don't have the ability to mark a footy which is extremely frustrating. We were spoilt with Big Boy in that department.

Just keep a forward line and play on at all costs. Right now one team is proactive and one is reactive. We aren’t good enough to play precise footy do we have to play instinctive risky footy. No spare man one on one footy. Just try it Sam because this cap is horrible to watch

Impey needs to come out of the side, really offers absolutely nothing. A more senior player in the side now, but has lost his zip which makes him rush and bomb, fumbly skills as well. Was a while where he was very exciting, but that's a long time ago now

No good crapping on about not knowing what the gameplan is, because even if you did know we’d not be executing it when we are running at 66% disposal efficiency.

We are also at 29% for inside 50 efficiency, which we probably all thought might happen with all the injuries we have.

Despite all the melting in here, we’re still only -3 inside 50’s and -2 for clearances.

It’s polish and lapses in concentration that is allowing Collingwood to pounce and letting us down.

Last Monday I criticised the game plan and the efforts of our players.

I got pelters on here.

I'm going to go again.

The game plan either doesn't work, or they cant execute it.

Too many players going for soft 'tackles' and failing to run back defensively.

No on-field leaders.



Questions need to be asked as to what is going wrong.

We have much bigger issues but it really sucks seeing Dylan Moore look so lethargic out there. Since Round 1 he’s looked crook and seems to be lacking that zip that made him so lively in previous years.

He’s close to my favourite player

It’s almost like we rushed him back early from a Glandular Fever type sort of illness.

A hard to watch first half, and a first half that showed a great snapshot of a team lacking in confidence and cohesion. Some of this has to fall on the coaching staff but it's hard to know if this is part of the game plan or if it's just players failing to execute their structural obligation.

With that said, one thing that I think is really important to highlight is that the absence of Breust and Lewis has had a big impact on our organisation ahead of the ball. Ahead of the ball is like a free for all with no real structure or plan. It's not just the forwards but they at least have an excuse.

The one thing that's frustrating me is how easily we let the ball out of our defensive half. All year, team after team are just walking the ball out with minimal pressure. This is a structural thing, we allow the space for them to clear the ball and we rely on an extra to then cut off the overlap on the wings and it rarely works in our favour.

Some player notes:
Frenchie lacks awareness at times. He focuses ahead but often forgets to make sure he's clear.
Meek is fumbly but he's giving it his all and winning the ball so tick for him.
Ramsden looks good, needs a bit more size to dominate but he seems to read the flight well.
Butler done a couple of nice things but want him to be more involved in the second half
Impey might need a box hill stint as he has repeatedly bombed the ball without looking and cost us goals. Demoralising, coach killer stuff.
Croc and Moore both seem well below their best.
Chol has worked hard and probably should have 2 goals to his name. Almost day so far. Hopefully he can land 3-4 in the second half and we can fight back.

Second half, I just want to see us play with purpose.

It’s what we do when we don’t have the ball …….. we go 90% while chasing tails when the opposition go 110%. Just want to see some heart, passion put your body on the line type of stuff but we are currently playing bruise free football every week.
