I know right
It is almost like Fly has been left like the naked swimmer when the tide goes out after losing the influence of Bolts and Leppa
Did you even read anything the club has provided about their roles? Where does it suggest Leppa & Bolton have no influence over the coaching, players, coaches, strategy, etc etc ?

Leppa is at training. Bolts & Leppa are there on game day. Bolton sits right next to Fly on the bench during the game. They are directly involved with all the coaches, players and list management. They're not sitting in an office negotiating sponsorship deals for the club 🙄
But ideally they would be doing what they did last year. To be honest, I don't really know what their assistant replacements in Skipworth and what'shisname are actually like in their line roles. What we do know is that we are not playing well this year.

The first time I recall hearing about a ‘Director of Coaching’ was when Eddie made up the job to placate Mick as part of the succession to Bucks.

That went well.

Then I think we gave that role to Rodney Eade after he left the Dogs, and he never looked comfortable in it. And I’m not sure what he did anyway. Mentor Bucks?

Since then it’s been empty? Until we shoehorned Bolton into it?

Other clubs have used it too, to hang onto people they don’t want to get rid of but can’t identify a specific role for. It’s like a well paid retainer. The incumbent comes to meetings and hangs around the box or the bench on game day, wearing head phones and looking important.

(I made some of that up).

Yes. One of about 5 assistant coaches was the director of coaching sitting below the head coach and probably also below another one of the assistant coaches... The job titles are a wee bit wanky.
It doesn't really matter what their title is as far as I'm concerned. It's just a title.

Both Leppa & Bolton are still involved with the coaches, coaching, players, strategy. Bolts is next to Fly on game day. Leppa is at training.

I couldn't care less what their business card says 😆

I don't think Leppa has been taking too much training this year?

It's good to hear that Bolts is taking some training again because as others have said our skills have fallen away somewhat.

One of the other big things to me is also the lack of Leppa on game day. He used to sit up in the coaches box and co-ordinate a lot of things from there. Skipworth is now doing that role and I'm not sure what to think of him.

I have always had doubts about Skipworth because of his name. Skipping is an activity I associate with kiddies who have had the play station taken away from them, and someone worth a skip is not necessarily someone worth a coach. Names are important when selecting people for these roles. We need blokes with manly sort of names that the players look up to and even fear.

I agree. I'm just mocking modern job titles.

It's a tough one. When I was growing up skipping was a girls primary school past time, but boxers skip a lot so it can be a strong indicator of mongrel too.

The real question that we need to get to the bottom of is whether his ancestors were doing the double Dutch or getting ready to punch someone in the head.

I associate skipping with Rocky.

This guy should do nicely

I have been trying to cast my memory back to 1963, to a skipping chant that I recall the girls at the Singapore international school I attended at the time playing as they waited for their parents to pick them up at the roundabout where we congregated after school on the property.

If Hayden is unaware of this rhyme, which I am sure he is, it's one I would suggest to him could be used near the end of Thursday training.

Just imagine that Sidebottom is being considered for demotion and Harvey Harrison for promotion to Sidey's spot. Sidebottom would be the initial rope jumper mentioned here. The players would spin the rope and chant:

'Vote, vote, vote for little Sidey
In comes Harvey at the door
Harvey's the one who is having all the fun
So we don't want Sidey anymore,
Get out the door!

So Sidey would jump out and Harrison in.

It's not quite 'pass the parcel' with its contemporary everyone's a winner element, but given we are talking grown up professionals and not kiddies here, the unfashionable competitive and elimination aspects of the rhyme are appropriate to a selection day theme. Perhaps players could be given something soft, squishy and liquidy to throw at the departing player, with Gatorade, reminiscent of the club song antics employed for first time players, to toss over the fresh team inclusion.

Don't know if you read bigfooty, Hayden, but I am happy for you to pick up this innovation and run with it.

Do you think they still have a fair bit of input?
They’re not coaching, regardless of their input. Jen has already made it clear that Leppa being out there during a training session is highly unusual.

Which is a big change.

Skipworth seems to take most of the training.

Yep. Regardless of how much or little Leppitsch and Bolton are involved on match day etc, the fact is that they’re not directly coaching the players and not directly coaching their own lines like they have the past 2 years. I’m not sure people understand how much of a drastic change that is for the playing group and it’s not a stretch to say it could have had an adverse effect on our performances compared to the last 2 years where they’ve had very hands on coaching roles.

But isn’t their input influencing the coaching?

And, how do any of us know what they are saying to players behind the scenes?

The two new line coaches have been around for years though. I really think it's all been in the players heads. We are definitely having a bit of a hangover. When we played Brisbane, there was a clip of Fly on the boundary line and he clearly mouthed the words, " Our pressure is back". When we're manic with our pressure, no one beats us
