It doesn't matter if Kane Cornes is occasionally right or frequently incredibly wrong, if you throw enough darts occasionally one hits the mark. He doesn't care what he says as long as it gets some sort of traction and you are doing yourself a massive disservice if you listen to him. Ever.
Read a book, listen to some albums, whatever. Just literally anything other than him.

Article on HS saying hawthorn's plight is because of a compromised draft system.not allowing them to flourish....

Surely this is a piss take yeah?
Hawthorn's plights? Yet when it comes to north they did it to themselves?

I just want to shut off all media and fast forward even 6 months to see how north is tracking then.
Oh boo hoo. Hawks built their 4 premierships off early first round priority picks.

Harvey stayed around the footy club forever after his playing days ended. He obviously didn't have a problem with the place whilst he was cashing in his cheque for whatever he was doing.

Firrito and that sort of player and person is the type we miss.

Saying our current predicament is because a few blokes with an average age of 35 left is just lazy.
If anything, maybe the problem was that the job was half-arsed rather it going too far - it was meant to be a symbol that it was the younger guys’ club now, but team selection was still pretty conservative iirc.

Scott was and should have been haunted by the admission that he to boot them because it was the only way he could stop himself leaning on them forever. Pathetic thing to do and say.

I think the point isn’t their age but the leadership and experience they had was suddenly gone and we have just kept chopping away at players with genuine experience/leadership which has had a terrible impact on our culture. I wonder how much different we would look today if we still had Ben brown Goldy and McKay in this team? (Assuming we could have made that work)

It's a pity pressure ratings aren't readily available to the average punter. However, as a proxy - we've averaged only 57 intercepts after 5 rounds, whereas the comp average is 68. And most of ours seem to occur deep in defence. We can't force the opposition to turn it over enough - we typically only get it back deep in defence (or after they kick a point).

Pressure acts are public

A side's pressure rating though at any given moment - eg a commentator will say a side has hit 200 mid way through the second - is that available anywhere? I can only see individual player's pressure act totals.

No, don’t have that.

But Champion Data’s overall team defensive rating is available

Ding, Ding, Ding!

...and the reason why he was playing them was because he couldn't get any other players to develop so we could transition properly.

We did not have a direct replacement for any of the four retirees + Wells (TT isn't even at the club anymore).

An indictment. There should be at least 5-10 players from pre-2016 era playing good footy so our young kids can develop with more protection. Look at what Clarko has to deal with instead. An absolute disaster of list management. We only have Lmac left.

We can't rebuild quicker with a predicament like that. It's not a healthy transition.

To be honest is he wrong?

It has to stop somewhere. 200 games is a good milestone but I think lining up for players should absolutely be reserved for retiring players and 300 games.

We're far too nice as a team and I hate to say this but this sounds exactly like something Smiles McDonald would orchestrate.

And further on Cornes - he was constructive last week saying we need to move Sheezel further forward and that we're much better off with delivering the ball inside 50. We saw on the weekend how effective Sheezel is in that role. He even highlighted the role Miers plays for Geelong as something Sheezel could do for us.

People will say oh we can't lose him from defense but the facts are our defensive set-up is not working, while Sheezel's disposal and calm head helps it's not really amounting to anything in terms of stopping the ball coming back in. He's also not a defender.
Agree with all of this.

Heath can **** off for all I’m concerned. He was so wrapt we won that last game and was adamant it was the turning point. No player was worth finishing last. He is better off using his media connections to get it through to north players to man up and tackle hard.

So this is where Sonja needs to come out and call these journalists to account. Or at least someone official from the club citing this article and addressing the rubbish.

1. we aren't asking for anything and won't be
2. the disingenuous nature of the reporting, image selection etc and the implication that our top end talent came to us become of draft concessions which is blatantly false.

the club has been far too passive recently and are essentially just allowing ourselves to be bullied. Can guarantee that the Brad Scott and James Brayshaw version of North wouldn't stand for this rubbish - they both had their faults but this definitely wasn't one of them. And other clubs push back on the media with far less rubbish pointed at them. Imagine if the media did this to Collingwood? No, they wouldn't because Eddie would take them to task.

Go hard and go now (call it 'click bait' call it 'gutter journalism' call it 'deceptive', 'disappointing', 'vitriolic') otherwise it's going to keep happening. Posting these articles and us getting outraged and feeling sorry for ourselves achieves absolutely nothing. We need and should expect a strong administration at the club and if the media pulls bullshit we should absolutely be strong enough to publicly embarrass them.

And lastly I'd like Clarko to finally show some ******* passion. Next press conference would be good to hear him address this sort of reporting and tell the media to stop talking rubbish.
I think we should. We lost Thomas for nothing. He was at his prime and guns in his age demographic are essential for the rebuild.

I’m confused with Lloyd’s comments tonight. Saying he’s never felt a team should lose deliberately etc, but also backhandedly clipping the club for not organising an elaborate tank in the final game.

I’m assuming it’s already been said but if caught doing that, it would have had massive implication financially, image wise, and draft banning.

Yes we are horrible, yes there needs to be a line in the sand drawn at some point by the club and media need someone to blame for a club being historically bad, that’s all fine. But surely the club has to hold journos and media personality’s accountable for just talking garbage and making wish washy statements like Lloyd did tonight.

I actually like Lloyd personally, he’s quite measured and thoughtful with his takes but gee tonight that had me a little disappointed. Kane is Kane So that just comes with the territory 😂

We are being shitcanned for NOT cheating. Didn't think the football media could still surprize me, but here we are. Un****inbelievable.

Simple ******* skill errors, wtf is this s**t? These mistakes should not be happening by AFL players.

Not sure I feel optimistic or pessimistic after seeing those errors - the postivie is they should be easily avoided in the long term. Negative is we have a lot of guys way down on confidence.

Clarko did say we doubled their clanger count, it’s tough viewing!

I can expect a couple in a game and to be fair to fish, killing that ball is a 50/50. Wont hang him for that, would have been nice to see him show some desperation for the jumper though.

I want to see simple skills, it’s fundamental shit, should be autonomous for an AFL players to PICK THE ****ING PILL UP or hit a 20 metre target under no pressure or take a simple as **** over head mark.

We are literally beating ourselves.

The above is squarely on the players. Not the coach.

This is what makes our games so hard to watch. I shouldn't feel frustrated watching our captains fumble with a ball on the ground and miss out on gaining possession at all. Later, a journeyman opp player of similar experience scoops it up on the run and delivers it clinically into their 50 for a goal. What hope is there in that?
