Oh 100% but they’ll never go for that in a million years, because how can you have a Grand Final in a stadium of only [whatever the Gabba holds]. And anyway we have a long term deal and the MCG it’s history and tradition and get over it.

The point of making the system like mine is you tickle their balls a little up front which might get the rest of the plan heard, and also get to make the AFL the good guy in the story. Only thing holding you damn interstate clubs back is yourself, don’t blame us.
I have no issues with a caviet around ground size (ie 50k+ )

Would be another incentive for QLD gov to spend money on a stadium

I solved the Grand Final years ago, in a way that’s super generous to the AFL and meets them so much more than halfway, but opens the door to fairness down the line. Give me 10 minutes on Fox Footy to spin this and every fan would endorse.

It’s a basic roster system that’s still rigged in their favour, and lets them pass the buck entirely, but could one day be purely fair. Roster the Grand Final on an 18 year cycle (given the number of clubs).

The AFL sets a benchmark. To host a Grand Final, your stadium needs x capacity, x number of flights to the city, x number of hotels within a distance of the stadium, whatever. Whatever parameters you want, lay them out.

There’s two WA clubs of 18. If WA meets those parameters, they get two Grand Finals every 18 years. If SA does, they get two every 18 years.

The Grand Final always defaults to the MCG, so if QLD can’t meet the benchmark, VIC gets their two of the cycle by default. At first every 18 year cycle is just MCG games, but by laying out the rules the AFL puts the onus on states and clubs to sort their facilities and push to host the game.

2 GFs in QLD, 16 in VIC? Cry more West Aussies, get on the government and clubs to meet the criteria.

Ultimate goal is an 18 year cycle wherein each state hosts once per club. Roster it like the NFL and if you happen to be in a GF the year you’re set to host, lucky you.

For my next trick, I’ll sort out the Gaza strip.
Love your creativity. BUT …
1. The vAFL have pretty much done SFA to mitigate the disadvantages the nonVic teams face.
2. They have a contract with the MCG. Its length is such that it is an absolute middle finger to us nonVics.
3. Until there are other 100,000 capacity stadia they have the ‘only MCG can provide a spectacle’ argument.

SO … I’ll keep saying this … given there now are nearly 50% nonVics, those clubs have to band together and start making NOISE. No more Mr Nice Guy. No more one nonVic against the AFL and 10 Vic clubs (not to mention the vAFL ‘national’ media).

We need to band together.

We also need to get the AFLPA involved. They might act in the interests of all AFL players but they seem to do absolutely SFA to help mitigate the unique disadvantages their nonVic members face.

We’ve all put up with this BS for too long. And playing nice has got us absolutely nowhere. Seriously.

Quite like De Koning in the ruck for Carlton and was thinking it’d be nice if Bailey Williams could become a similar type player

Did a stats comparison on footywire and they’re surprisingly even. Were even from the same junior club just a year apart and in a commensurate puck in their respective drafts

"The rule change"

That was a bog standard HTB and we shouldn't be impressed.
So true - There is no rule change - it's just actually applying a rule that's been around forever that the umpires got told to ignore

Update on the Clarkson swearing stuff.

He was swearing at an umpiring decision, not at the umps directly so he's not in trouble.
Wont miss any games

BUT the club and himself have decided that being on the bench is a bad idea so he's remaining in the Coaches box for the rest of the year so he can let all the swears out without issue.

Plus he'll be able to punch the wall without having to walk all the way back up the stairs.

I agree totally with points 1 and 2, but point 3 is not a valid argument.
The 2 biggest (probably) annual sporting events in the world have stadium requirements but they are well below 100K.
And you can hardly complain about the 'spectacle' (or lack of) at the Superbowl or Champions League final.

CL - various lighting, pitch, broadcast capability, hospitality etc requirements. Capacity 60K minimum.
SB - various, but capacity 70K.

So there is no reason a country with the population of Australia couldn't put a stadium capacity requirement of say 50K on the GF. That would put Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide in the mix.

Of course the vAFL will never do it.

It was always going to end this way.

There is no interest in the truth unless the AFL benefit or there is a way to massage it to maintain their PR.

The true innocent parties in this - the Indigenous families who spoke out - are the ones who in the end suffer the most.
This line sums it up beautifully:
The league remained concerned about “blowback” in shutting down the inquiry, but were advised that the public and the media had shifted and become more sympathetic to the plight of Clarkson and Fagan.
