I wanted to start this thread because the club and media read BF.

But honestly this guy is now a complete liability, hack kicks, zero intensity and effort, he costs us goals. Should attend no more than 5 CBAs per match and needs to go into defense to learn to defend again, maybe in the SANFL is best.

Does the club actually think Berry couldn't do the job?? He might not be great but he's decent. Plus Rachelle, Taylor, Dowling and Michelanney should be rolling through there.

Nick's needs to stop this BS and hold him and Smith accountable

Laird's only AFL quality trait at this point is winning contested ball in the midfield. There's no value in having him in defence. If he's not attending CBAs he just shouldn't be in the side.

No issue with trying different things with the rest of the year but realistically for 2025 we need to decide what the midfield mix should look like and if it doesn't include Laird he should be playing SANFL.

Prior to his move to the midfield Laird was pretty good at taking intercept marks across half back but his inability to hurt by foot makes it all seem not worthwhile. Meanwhile Brisbane have Zorko in that role who is lighting it up - if we're not willing to put Rachele in the midfield at all, I don't know why we're not seeing if he could find some form in this seagull role.

Some of his defensive efforts are worse than his kicking skills. Doesn’t offer much leadership despite being our oldest player. His only thunder is he get a ton of ground ball (doesn’t even need to bend down!) but handballs to teammates under pressure quite often.

Game has gone so past this guy…..

A lot of tongue in cheek here but look at compare the pair and see how he stacks up against one of the best in Zac merrett in season 2024

He only trails him in metres gained
And that’s because his handball to kick ratio is out of whack but his handball is elite to the outside runners Inc Dawson

In June July he has made kicking into forwards a priority and in last three games has kicked well to fog and tex

You have the time so check out the stat comparison and their efficiency and Clanger count

Btw in second qr he had 11 touches at 90% and we kicked 9 goals up against merrett and co and he had 8 clearances at centre. ,stoppages and other and 9 cbas

And btw he’s a 3 time b and f and all oz so show some respect

Yep, he’s a stats king.

Offensively and ball hunting, Rory Laird is a good player. Knows how to rack up that possession count.

However, he is a total let down in transition, when we don't have the ball or when the ball goes across a line. He us a defensive liability and isn't interested in chasing of applying pressure when the ball isn't in his area.

Rory laird is a one way runner and development sides don't need that type on their leadership program as it sets a bad example.

Sorry but winning B&Fs in two of your worst years (only 2020 was worst) doesn’t necessarily command respect. If he wins a fourth it is an indictment on this club. Riccuito, Goodwin and McLeod also have three and Laird is not in the same league as these 3.

Did you not see a few loopy handballs tonight that put the player receiving immediately under pressure and tackled?

Laird was very good last night. Thought for once his hunt and ground ball work made up for shit defensive efforts (apparently he had a corked thigh).

Overall he’s been terrible this season though, he’s just Crouch but more fumbly. Crouch has better positioning as well and doesn’t overcommit to the contest, his opponent doesn’t run off him anywhere near as much as Laird.

He did his best work on the bike.

How many teams carry 1, let alone 2, one dimensional inside mids with no hurt factor? The games gone past this style of mid. Give me 15 Dawson touches a game over 30 from Craird any day of the week.

I don’t think we need to play either, and our midfield will be all the better for it.
