This match may have shades of our Gather Round game vs Suns earlier in the season.

Two teams playing fast, offensive footy with experience and incremental execution being the difference.

Also wary that the VFL green team will leave their fingerprints all over the match as they did in Tasmania.

We’ll have to shift up a gear to get the result.

Hopefully Slammer better after his courageous return last week and Cogs resuming normal service.

Surely Peatling stays in the team.
I guess we have to play Cognilio, but I don't think his shoulder is quite right.

Yep, with Cogs' shoulder, maybe we'll want to not throw him into the trenches quite so much, therefore keeping Peatling in for the contested work makes sense; so perhaps Cogs pushes XOH out of the team. That at least puts him a little more outside, some forward time maybe, and makes use of Peatling's main attribute.

Doubt there would be other changes; think Cadman will get another run - although I get the view that VFL form needs to be rewarded, and 5 goals is a big outcome in a good year for Gru.

Cadman stays.
One thing we have to watch is our tackling technique. All the small forwards play for frees whenever they are tackled… and they’ve received far more than any other team. It has a significant outcome on the game.

Our clearance differential and contested possession game needs far more work. If cogs is fit, he plays and he will help impact that. We really need to lift in this area of the game and I can only see it rectified by bringing in talent from the injury list

I know he’s a year older now, but it does strike me as odd we haven’t at least tried the option of Keeffe as KPF/ruck back-up which worked pretty well last year.
Except it didn't work pretty well. It was basically all we could do at that point, but the team always preferred other options. Keeffe was ok if graded on a sliding scale (and I loved him for being able to do that much) but he was basically stationary last year and didn't offer much beyond a spoiling forward, which is a very odd niche to want to fill.

Keeffe came into the side in Round 11 and then played 14 games including all three finals matches. We won 10 of those 14 games. It was a very specific and limited role but I reckon it worked pretty well.

Spoke to Montgomery about it and his name comes up at MC each week but have stuck with getting games into Cadman so far (I suspect on the assumption he will come good later in the season). That they could afford to get games into him whilst it wasn’t to the detriment of the time

We are now at a point where we need it might be to the detriment of the team in the next 2 months. Briggs also looks banged up. Or sure how he got through on the weekend

Depends what you are after I guess.

A tough tall match up and a better 2nd ruck option.

Or someone more mobile who can pressure and can lead to space and it less likely to clog up Hogan 1v1s.

I'm probably taking Cadman still...but can totally see why some might want Keefe.

The Hawks will play a loose spare in lime green in their forward line. He’ll be looking to put on 3-5 goals.

This is how they plan to steal the game from us.

Our guys will have to be very vigilant.

A massive test of integrity for VFL HQ.

Match integrity in the spotlight at Manuka.

Yep, looks like the VFL media is pivoting to "players ducking for free kicks is actually a good thing" ahead of our game.

Get ready for some abominable umpiring this Sunday.

I'm hoping for an umpiring reaction the opposite way, because they've done that before too. "You ducked, play on" now that attention has been called to it. :D

Hmm...these sort of umpiring disparities have a very "2016" smell about them.

Oh the irony of David King trying to lead the charge in bringing in more severe sanctions for head injuries and concussion, whilst also cheering players who actively lower their head at the last second - before a defender can change their action - which will lead to more instances of concussion…
Wild. The re-phrasing is crazy

IN: Max Gruzewski, Conor Stone, Lachlan Keeffe, Ryan Angwin
OUT: Jake Riccardi (Injured)

The GIANTS have added four players to their extended squad set to take on the Hawks at Manuka Oval on Sunday afternoon.

Emerging key forward Max Gruzewski has been added to the squad following his five-goal haul in the VFL last week, along with veteran utility Lachlan Keeffe.

The pair could be in line to replace forward Jake Riccardi, who underwent surgery this week.

The 24-year-old underwent surgery on a dislocated finger with consultation with the specialists determining that he is expected to miss the remainder of the home and away season.

Versatile back Conor Stone and wingman Ryan Angwin have also been named in the extended squad following impressive performances in the VFL’s win over Casey last weekend.

The GIANTS will name their 23-man team at 5pm on Friday while the substitute will be named 60 minutes before the first bounce.
