Autopsy Round 24: Hawks cull the Roos

That was absolutely spectacular.

The forward line rebuild in one off season has been extraordinary and with the ages of Dear, Watson, Moore, Ginnivan, McDonald, Chol and possibly Weddle if he moves forward means we will have a decade of watching this excitement machine.

Today’s opposition was lamentable but that forward group didn’t let up one bit and absolutely feasted. It was an exclamation mark on the most incredible in-season turnaround I’ve seen from a hawks side.

Now the real stuff begins and we are back where we belong in the thick of it. No side will want to come up against that forward group.

I love the way how our forwards are not being selfish either.

We just took our draft picks no charity priority bull$hit , we tried to trade in a couple of big names but they knocked us back too , but here we are . Everyone else wanted us to stay 2nd or 3rd last for at least a decade but it’s not the way the Hawthorn FC operates .
Sam has shown what a fallacy that tanking for draft picks is.

High draft picks are a long way behind gameplan, training standards, player development, talent identification, smart trading, etc, etc.

This is what this club is about. Take the losses, learn from them and bounce back quickly and hard. Good foundations, good culture, good people. No handouts or begging bowls.

Superb today (again). Looking forward to finals with Hokball at The G - what these boys were made for!

I really liked Mckenzies game today. 23 touches at 87% even with 11 contested possessions
Yep.

Morrison and Maginness also made solid contributions.

I think you add Ward, Day and CJ to today’s line up and that’s our squad of 26 for the next 4 weeks.

Single handedly ruining every third thread on this board, but yes.

Players:

It’s not where you pick them or how you get them….its what you do with them that matters.

Scary to think that with a couple more pieces we really could be on the cusp of a few more flags. Going to be tough without the double chance but the momentum and experience gained from this season will be monumental, regardless of what happens. The excitement and buzz from within the club and the fans is very very real. 😍

Now begins the stressful task of trying to secure a ticket for the elimination final.

Is that the highest team score of the year?

Squiggle has us at 3.

We are pumping, running hot as.

All the components that have made us good this year we're on display today...the kicking from the back line...smalls went to work...winning the post clearance stuff...some of those tap ons were genius level...hard running...good goal kicking.

Loved Massimo and Moore...Wiz...some exciting signs from Weddle playing more forward and free late on.

I swear when Sicily kicked that centre forward goal off the floor late on that Dear was thinking he just stole a goal from me.
Yep, pipped the GWS 164 score against Geelong in round 10 and Geelong who just scored 168 vs WC.

What an amazing ride this season has been. The boys are growing in stature and confidence by the week. We are playing exceptional footy.

Praise Sam Mitchell and praise HOKBALL !!!

Whatever happens from here , everything about the efforts this year has been incredible.
