Slow day on trade-radio…

B:Archer Logue McDonald
HB:Houston Corr Draper

C:McKercher Davies-Uniacke Scott

HF:Ford Comben Simpkin
F:Curtis Larkey Darling

R:Xerri Parker Sheezel

I:Teakle Zurhaar Powell Wardlaw

Don't think we can have all 4 of Darling Larkey, Comben and Teakle in the forward line.

Backline looks a bit undersized to me and McDonald, yuk!

Curtis, Zurhaar, Durrsma, Ford, Simpkin

All seem to be very similar players to me.

Fitting all of these in our team is probably making us a bit too unbalanced.

Really need a proper small forward or two to step up so we are more dynamic and one or two of those I have mentioned will need to be moved on/ reinvented in the next year or two.

McDonald will be there, it’s not my preference.

Teakle will be the second ruck and work up the ground. Darling and Larks the keys.

If we need Comben back then swing him around.

We have been so starved of actual KP depth, that many of us lose our minds a little when we see 6 key-position players in a team but forget that most run with six in a team and some have 7-8.

I think Simpkin can be the small forward we need but not sure how keen he would be to play that role

If he can’t play mid he probs would at least rather high half forward working hard up the ground and through stoppages
Other sides push their small forwards all the way to D50 to provide link-up and pressure on the opposition. Even in our VFL side we'd do that with Harvey, RJH and Drury.

Our best possible 2025 side in my opinion:

B: Archer-Logue-Corr
HB: Houston-Chom-Daniels
C: Scott-LDU-McKercher
R: Xerri-Sheezel-Wardlaw
HF: Parker-Darling- Zurhaar
F: Jy-Larkey-Curtis
Interchange: Powell , Fisher ,Teakel , Duursma
Sub: Goater
Emergency: Hansen Jnr
Just looking at that team looks so beautiful. Tho would be 50/50 on that Houston pick. The draft this season is amazing and probably our last only draft season to pick up the final pieces to start pushing that ladder.

I think yes in theory a good side but unless McDonald is in the side and as captain then it’s ok side.
Everybody should know once the players name him as captain then he just plays.
Iv realised no point calling McDonald to go the players love him so do the coaches no point fighting it just used to it.
Thats my motto.

Mate, stop spamming the threads with the same posts about McDonald. We know you're not keen on him getting the armchair ride he gets and most of us agree with you. So let's move on hey.

It'll be interesting to see where Chom trains through the preseason.

Personally I see them switching him back forward and building WDawson to play as many games as possible as KPD.

I don't think it is as clear as just putting Chom as a lock at CHB.

Highlighting that we need to draft/trade/sign a genuine marking CHF in 2025;

B: Archer - Logue - Corr
HB: Goater - Comben - Hardeman
C: McKercher - Sheezel - Stephens
HF: Zurhaar - CHF DRAFT/TRADE TARGET HERE - Duursma
F: Curtis - Larkey - Maley
R: Xerri - LDU - Wardlaw
INT: Simpkin, Scott, Fisher, Teakle
Sub: (From) Ford, Powell, Stephenson

Updating this now that we're on the otherside of the trade and draft. New players in blue.

Based on my projections/predictions of who will play themselves into selection in 2025.

I really wanted to find a place for Finnbar Maley in this squad because I think 2025 is going to be a big leap forward in terms of his development. Unfortunately, it's hard to squeeze both him and Darling into the same forward line with Larkey.

I also acknowledge that the interchange/sub group probably needs a tall, but whomever that 'tall' is also needs to at least be able to pinch-hit in the ruck. I guess that's mainly Toby Pink, whom everyone knows I love, but I couldn't quite get there in terms of including him.

Points of note;

  • Luke McDonald not included, and isn't an oversight. I think he's going to massively struggle to crack our AFL team on form in 2025.
  • The inclusion of Goater assumes his recovery from injury progresses well, but yeah - I have massive wraps on the kid and think he's going to surprise a lot of people.
  • Including all of Daniel/Darling/Parker because I don't think we brought them in to play VFL, but that does unfortunately make it very difficult to find spots for our 2024 draft picks like FOS.
  • As previously noted, I feel like the group is probably missing 1 more 'tall' option. Whether that's Teakle, Maley, or Pink will likely be decided in the preseason, however I feel like that final 'tall' position will go to whomever is most versatile because they'll likely need to play a bit of a swingman role.
  • I've got Comben down back and think that's the smart move for 2025. Can't really fit him/Darling/Larkey in the same forward line, and we aren't blessed with solid tall defender depth either.

From seeing how the players have been training, I'd day Hardeman takes Goater's spot rd1.
Will be a fight to see who of philips, ford and konstanty takes a role but I think we don't think we wont play a small forward.

Curtis is the small forward.

Track watchers seem to have Comben training as fwd this preseason? I really like the look at that back 6 if he lands at CHB.

Think you got it pretty close.
I think McDonald starts the season before Goater/Hardeman takes his spot.
Don't think Stephens will play a lot with B.Scott taking his spot.
Darling will play a lot of games in first half of the year, with possible appearances of Maley and Teakle.
If Dawson gets fit he will take Comben place back with Comben going forward. Hopefully later in the season.
Parker will take Duursma spot on the field.
Bench will be from Powell, Hardeman, Duursma, Fisher, RHJ, Constanty, Phillips, Ford, Maley and Fos
Lots of competition for spots!!!

We said the same last year but with a few injuries there really wasn't much competition for spots.
