It's never hinkleys fault anyways

Imagine winning a minor premiership and losing a home Prelim by a kick, then adding Orazio Fantasia and a guy who would become All-Australian CHB the following year, and believing the poor dear has never had a list capable of making a Grand Final.

This is the mythology our mainstream fanbase happily gulps down.

I will probably be in the minority but I class the 2021 Prelim loss against the Dogs as a worse loss than the 2007 GF. A Non-Victorian team has never been gifted a better chance to make a Grand Final in the history of the game, and never will again.

The prelim against the Dogs was everything wrong with Hinkley flashing on a 500 metre high neon billboard.
it's what made me walk out in the 3rd q and has broken my relationship with the club

foolishly held onto a 3 game membership the following year, cancelled it after that one. Won't return while any of the the Four Horsemen of the Aportalypse are there, if I do at all

That for me was the game that he should have been given his marching orders over. That was diabolical
Let's not forget he went full roller shutters down and avoided the media for the entire post- & pre- seasons until the week before just hoping we had all forgotten

Someone from the inner circle needs to tell the real story about the pre game preparation and the aftermath of that Bulldogs prelim. It's ridiculous that the only 'head to roll' after that debacle was Schofield, and even then it was likely to have been his decision.

We will barely win over an injured essendon and then the media will say that sacking hinkley was the wrong move lol

Yeah I would love to know what went down.

100%. Losing that Prelim narrowly in a dour slugfest, akin to Richmond 12 months prior, would’ve been utterly unacceptable given the mindboggling advantages the club enjoyed.

To not show up, and then effectively hoist the white flag barely 5-10 minutes into the contest, should’ve resulted in grovelling apologies and mass sackings/resignations.

Instead, old mate bristles at inevitable criticism from the likes of Kane and Tredders, and implores people to “judge us on the collective” at his B&F speech (having reminded us in the afterglow of the Geelong QF win, that he’d previously said to judge him at the end of the year when the team is at full strength).

What a liberty!

Don't forget that the Bulldogs were isolating and travelling all over the country for the finals and lost a few first 22 players leading up to the game including their full back. Also had to basically unretire their last choice ruck to play the game.

Without a doubt our worst loss in AFL history.

And it should be what Ken is remembered for.

Hawks Gather Round game can’t come quick enough.

Booed every time he’s shown the on the screen by Hawks fans, and there’ll be plenty there.

And the AFL controls the Gather Round in-stadium entertainment, not Port, so hopefully they’ll be building the rivalry up and milking the narrative from the finals last year.

Also, yesterday was supposedly member recognition round, did the campaigner have anything to say in his presser about the 37,000 that turned up? First words out of McRae’s mouth in a pre-game TV interview on Friday night - “we love our Magpie army”.
If he couldn't be bothered rocking up to the AGM or the B&F, he wouldn't mention the fans in his press conference.

Listening to Nathan Buckley on SEN today... I'm not sure if he can be a great coach but jeez he oozes what everyone here thinks of as that old Port Adelaide attitude. He would straighten up a few. Whether that works in this day and age when players can break contract to run off interstate on a whim, I don't know.

Well they did no match simulation in the 2 weeks between the quali and the prelim.
It's been a few years, so the timeline is murky to my recollection, but a few of the players got together for a piss up (I believe it was the weekend of the semi finals). My understanding is that this may have resulted in a few of these players not being able to access the Club due to certain covid protocols at the time.

Definitely did zero contact or anything physical for two full weeks. Wanted to stay fresh.....
