Giants P2 member here. I have a Cat 2 (M9) ticket for sale at face value $412. Unfortunately it's not possible for me to get down to Melbourne for the game.
I'm not a scalper and I'd prefer the ticket went to an actual Giants fan so I'm offering it here first before trying my luck with Tigers...
This would be ideal, however I think there's a set salary for first round draft picks set by the players' Collective Bargaining Agreement. Not sure if it's just a mandatory minimum, but if not I don't think there's any chance of O'Meara copping $100k a year for us when he could be getting $700k...
Totally agree with this. The story about us freeing up cap space for a crack at Fyfe in 2017 seems like the club doing a bit of damage control to me - Mitchell was on a 1 year deal anyway, Lewis was a veteran, so it's not like we've just saved ourselves millions.
On the whole if the O'Meara...
Yeah using the Nets example was definitely exaggeration. Those trades have destroyed the franchise for a decade or more. Not even Freo have ever done business that badly.
Goes without saying, but Hawks are taking a massive roll of the dice here for a number of reasons:
The most obvious, if the Jaeger deal falls through, we have to play through 2017 with a massively depleted midfield, and no 1st round draft pick at the end of the tunnel.
If the JOM deal happens...
RELAX everybody it's not true. I have it on good authority (someone at the game) there is beer left, so we can all breathe easy. Unfortunately it's CUB only though so you have to be a scab.
...were writing us off after we lost to the Swans, saying we were mentally weak, too old, precision gameplan didn't work in finals, etc.
Again, I dunno. They're both pretty f**ken good. My personal opinion is that Geelong 2008 were probably the best of all time, and look what happened to them.
Can't decide whether Caleb Daniel or the Bont is a better player. Going with Caleb I think coz he reminds me of Mitchell. Needs an opposite foot though
To me it was just a finals tackle. Given the MRP tend to gain a capacity for rational thought in the finals, it will probably be graded incidental contact and thrown out.
However, if they grade it as negligent, it could come down to the Swans medical report whether Mummy plays again this year...
On the TV it looked like Smith did everything right. Just one of those kicks that looks and feels great off the boot and then just tilts off axis, like it had a mind of it's own. I swear this Geelong-Hawks rivalry could turn you religious sometimes.
If anyone has the outlook to put this behind...
Yeah good point. Maybe take the COLA structure and apply it to say, any team that finishes bottom 4. Fixed time frame of 3 years or so. Could encourage tanking I guess.
On the salary cap floor thing, how about this:
We all know that the AFLPA will not allow the cap floor to be significantly reduced (and I think they have a pretty good point from a workers' rights perspective).
So how about if teams at the bottom of the ladder still paid the whole cap in...
AFL needs to get serious on controlling clubs' off field spend. Football Department spending should be subject to a hard cap, rather than a soft cap/luxury tax as at present. It's a ridiculous competitive advantage for the big clubs to have in an era where sports science knowledge is advancing...
Tippett was the difference for them last time imo. His ruck work was outstanding and every time he went forward we had no way of matching up that could neutralise both him and Buddy. It was the best game I've seen him play apart from that 2012 prelim. It'll be interesting to see how they go...
Amazing how every man and his dog seems to have an anecdote about a false rape claim ready to go when this sort of thing happens. For what it's worth I've had a couple of female friends have encounters with men that they knew were "not ok", that they declined to take up with the police through...
