Yeh Big Boy as well, we certainly had a pair of tough as rocks rucks with those two. Maybe not the most athletic rucks but geez they could play footy. I wonder if Big Boy paid for a yacht for the owner of the company the Hawks buy their sports tape from looking at those pics 😂

All this talk of Hale makes me remember how tough old Mega Head was. Ive never seen a ruckman scrap as hard for a ground ball the way that Hailstorm used to. He really was as tough as a cats forehead which was a common theme across our "role players" in the three peat years (Goo, Duryea...

Still in pretty good nick is Hodgey 👍

Last pre season I said that I didn't think the gap between Mark and Reeves was that big and that Meek was in with a shot at becoming our number 1 ruck. This pre season the gap is quite large in Meeks favour but I am very interested to see how Reeves is developing. If he could just improve...

And the interesting thing is none of those three mentioned are big shocks. Ben McKay was nothing special at the Roos and nothing special at the Dogs, nowhere near an $800k a year player. JUH has had plenty of rumblings about off field issues for a couple of years now. Smith as well, his off...

I feel like calling him a halfwit is being too generous. One/Fifth wit is probably more accurate.....

Geez we dodged two bullets missing out on Smith and JUH. We went full Neo from The Matrix in slow motion last trading period 😂

The thing I wonder about is when you see actually engaging sports commentators like Mark Howard and Anthony Hudson and then you compare them to this bloody boofhead, how do they keep their jobs for so long? I don't think the talent pool for sports commentators in Australia is that shallow...

The umps definitely like the cut of Jais jib. He's in with a big chance at the Brownlow this year. I also wonder how many PCMs he will win over the journey, he's such a resilient player.

Would have to be something along these lines I’d say. A mix of criminal connections and family issues combined into one big clusterduck. Lots of players have family dramas but they don’t need to quit / leave the country to deal with it.

I’d say he did it more for the thrill of being associated with these types of people which to me shows an incredible lack of judgement (yes I know he’s young). Once someone gets sucked into that world it’s very hard to drag yourself out of it.

That’s the one that I took notice off. Why would an AFL footballer choose to surround himself with those types? Getting done for drugs, well they are young and stupid I can understand that. Not ideal but it’s not the end of the world. But choosing to surround yourself with those types is a...

Players like Newk and Petracca that are built like rugby league wingers pushing 100kg yet can run 14+ Kms a game are so valuable. That combination of size and endurance is hard to beat. Plenty of players can slim down and be endurance athletes and plenty can pack on the kilos to be power...

Would not touch JUH with a ten foot pole personally. Way to many red flags with his links to "colorful" characters being a real concern. Doggies are in a tight spot now. They can't release too much of dirt to dilute his trade value but at the same time they need to release enough dirt to...

    Best 22 for Round 0. 2025.

Also Bruest is pretty much just a goal scoring specialist these days, not like in his prime when he was very good at the defensive side. The Wiz as well all know loves to run down an opposition player from behind when he puts on his jets. I also think he could be thrown into the middle for...

He's built like a walking refrigerator! Straight up and down, no need for any curves for Meek Monday 🤣

Awesome work as always Pinoy 👌 Geez Mitch Lewis looks in prime condition, surely he gets a bit of luck go his year and he can have a decent crack at it?

Five players you are big on for 2025

That's a real Blue Chip portfolio of players 👌 I agree on Lewis, surely the bloke is due some luck and can get a decent run at it.

You don't play 250+ games and kick 500+ goals in this league without being total professionals. To be in what looks like career best nick in their mid 30s is testament to this 👌

Endurance is always such a big struggle for the Rugby lads when they try and play AFL. The constant movement in Aussie Rules is so different to the stop start nature of League As you say he's a longer term prospect.

I agree, the biggest thing that Semi Final loss showed was that we lacked one more genuine midfield star to match it with the likes of Port (obviously having Day out didn't help). From all reports Mackenzie is killing it this pre season which is an excellent sign👌

For someone his size he is pretty tough as well. He will never be a powerful unit like Newk or an explosive runner like CJ but he knows how to play footy.
  25. Simon Crawshay

Training 2025 Off-Season & Preseason reports and discussion

I like your description of Harry turning up in the right spot, it’s his greatest strength he just knows where to go to get the ball. It’s why I think he should get a decent crack at making a spot in the wing his own. He knows where to run which is the real art of being a winger and his...

He goes all right on the wing does Harry. Was good playing that link up wingman in the finals games.

    Best 22 for Round 0. 2025.

I remember a game (down in Tassie I think) where Fergus was our tallest forward line player at a whopping 187cm! We had some ridiculously small forward lines a couple of years ago (didn't help that Lewis was constantly injured and Kossy was well Kossy).
  28. Simon Crawshay

Training 2025 Off-Season & Preseason reports and discussion

In some ways I feel like Wedds is more a natural forward than a defender. He is a very instinctive player and he loves to kick a goal which is a great sign. As you say he would blow up pretty much every key defender in the league with his endurance running. The question is whether his...

Training 2025 Off-Season & Preseason reports and discussion

I think this is the best shape out players have looked in a pre season for a long time. So many players (Ramma, Newk, Ginni, Blank, Lewis, Scaife, etc) are all looking noticeably stronger and leaner. Even old heads like Gunners look as good as I've ever seen. I think our conditioning team are...
