Great game, lots to like. Love JOD, West, Bramble in particular.
One request please ... Bailey Dale to only kick, not handball ever again. When he does handball it often costs us a goal.
A lot to like about last night. The difference for mine was the better skill execution of the Cats in the first 3 quarters.
We are talking about small moments. In particular some of our usual suspects (Treloar, Dale, Daniel ... giving away goals by fumbling or poor skills). Treloar and Dale were...
Some thoughts ...
Gallagher and Sanders are pure footballers. Good decision makers, tough and kick the ball efficiently
Darcy is a more competitive ruckman than Lobb. Better second efforts and pressure acts. Not his best game, though we should persist and not be tempted by Lobb's VFL form...
I'll preface this with the fact that I have been (still am) a Bevo fan. I do not agree with him on this though.
Naughton is our best forward, yes (though JUH about to pass him or at least be his equal).
A spine of Jones, Naughton, Bont, JUH and Darcy (Lobb) would make our team better (IMO)...
I hope we stick with JJ, Dale, Richards, VDM and Dureya down back with the 2 talls. Personally I'd keep Jones and JOD. They combined well and kick the ball better than Keath or Gardner. Having four (JJ, Dale, Richards and VDM) quick and skilful runners set us on our way. Repeat please!
Out: Poulter, Bruce, Keath, VDM
In: Richards, Baker, A. Jones, L. Jones (West stays as Sub) ... If Jones is not fit, then Buss (preferred) or JOD
Cleary plays tall. Poulter has been OK, though for me Baker is ahead and it is time to have our best in.
I have not felt this flat since 3QT of the GF in 2021. Some very similar stories ...
Periods of brilliance (1st half) and domination
Missing of numerous straightforward 30-40m set shots
Multiple players flying for a mark and spoiling one another
Opposition get multiple goals on the run (5 this...
Just finished watching the game (I live in Europe) after chasing the kids around all day.
Lots to like (forward line, Richards and VDM back) ... BUT,
McNeil's hands are not clean enough
Treloar coughs it up too much
Williams does not go hard enough
Smith low on confidence (last Q was better)...
Some positives:
English more competitive in Ruck
Richards continues to improve
Whilst not their best night JUH and Astro will be better from the run
Not positive:
F50 entries ... no improvement yet
Kicking blindly around corners and bombing it long, like bush footy ... Dees constantly hit...
In terms of the OP is there any news on the follow F/S this year and next?
Mitchell Croft - (2022 Draft)
Jordan Croft - (2022 Draft)
Tom Garlick - (2023 Draft)
Max Darcy - (2023 Draft)
Jack Johnson - (2023 Draft)
At 11 we need to pick-up the best in and under, defensive oriented and hard at it midfielder left in the draft pool. We have just lost our only elite midfielder with these attributes.
Libba is our next best. He turns 31 early next season and has a banged up body. I have serious concerns about...
Who are our best 1:1 competitors? When we see a 1:1 contest on the wing, backline, forward of centre ... who do we hope is there for the dogs?
TBH ... struggling, once the ball leaves the centre square. Can anyone help me with who are strong 1:1 competitors on the wing, down back and in the...
I doubt it will happen, though I'm with King on First Crack. Fix the backline, where we badly need an intercept marker. Crozier is the best we have now Wood has retired, though Naughton would be one of the best in the competition if he played there. Not sure why Crozier is not playing ... maybe...
Whilst I like Vanders, I think West has him for footy smarts. He might have just jumped the queue for that pressure forward spot.
McNeil is good overhead as well.
Looking forward to the Cats next week. Big test to see where we are at.
Shout out to Ed Richards (may have been mentioned earlier). Over 600 metres gained, 20 possessions, quality ball use and better in the air v Bombers. Best game for some time from Ed and possibly his best in the AFL at HB, his natural position.
If anyone still has concerns about losing Lipinski, they should watch him closely in the last quarter v Cats.
He is a solid AFL player, top 25 on most lists, very good depth cover ... when the heat is on in the kitchen, he is unlikely to be your game breaker.
I'd love him still be be with us...
I'm struggling to make sense of a 93 point swing in a quarter and a half. 16 Goals in 29 minutes of real game time. Physical conditioning? Sheer fatigue? Maybe those 3 goals in a minute (0 mins to go in the 3rd) simply broke them mentally. Hopefully at some point I'll remember the first 3 finals...
Weightman for VMD. JJ's Norm Smith is in his favour if VDM is deemed fit.
I'm not sure who comes out for Keath.
The smart money is on Cordy (out), though his GF experience might count in his favour.
I'd pick Keath and Cordy.
Tough at selection and as always many unlucky players.
I'll start with the fact that we don't win without Bailey Smith. My criticism is that 2 of the Bailey's (Smith and Dale) butchered the ball going inside 50. If you watch the replay there were at least 5 open players that were missed from Dale and Smith (throughout the game), with very little...
IN: Martin, Gardner, Richards
OUT: Young, Wood or Cordy, JJ
The last 2 won't be popular, though based on what I have seen the last 3 weeks and form, I'd run with this.
I think he has a future, though thought he was very quiet against the Suns and what he did do had limited impact.
I'm curious to know why you thought he was 'excellent.' His stats below ... perhaps moot point as MC have made their call.
Agree with this. There seems to be a lack of confidence, that has led to players not going for intercept marks and relying on spoiling too often. 3 of the Suns goals in the 1st quarter were the result of a poorly timed spoil. 2 of them should have been marked and the last one was a terrible...
It won't happen and yes Bruce has had a great year. Though no p***take. His last 3 weeks have been closer to 2020, than his first 10 games. Hope he lifts!
