Rd 7 Changes vs Freo

Is it possible the 4 headed monster could work now that Sam and JUH are one year further in the development. I would think the 4 would only spend 20 to 30% of game time in the forward line together. The plus is tactically it will be hard to man up and would stretch the opposition and they are fairly mobile. The minus is it limits the amount of rotations for the on ballers and if we do not mark ball it would get ran out of defence. However good teams need a point difference ours was the handball club in 2016 and it is area where we could have an advantage by playing to our strengths.

If JUH is available, Darcy has a rest from all levels of footy for the week. Keep his body fresh, he’s had 5 in a row now.

Libba in for VDM.

Sanders back to VFL to find touch and confidence. Whoever deserves the last spot most on VFL form to come up.
I like this, and if Daniel plays well, he should come in for Bramble. Sanders spot should be someone knocking the door dawn in the twos. Bevo has recently said he will reward form, that said, Garcia and Lobb must stay and keep the guys in the reserves ready because they will have something to play for.

Bramble doesn’t blow me away but Bevo mentioned he was given the defensive job on Higgins so he must’ve been happy with how that went. We definitely need a lock down small defender. Bramble potentially being groomed for that?

I personally want to see Gallagher developed there.

If JUH is ok then Lobb goes out

Libba in for VDM sounds like they may be conservative and rest him

Sanders into 22 and Gaggs to sub

I disagree. Darcy deserves his spot. Sam has good form. He is English’s # 1 back up in the ruck. If English is getting his arse kicked, Darcy comes in and provides a contest. Darcy has a competitive streak that Tim does not. Lobb has to play. Some of his body work last night was exceptional. Most plays that went through him turned to gold.

Westy and Flea thrive of such a target that brings the ball to their feet. I rate Marra and he makes the 22 if he is available. He does not chase and tackle like Lobb did last night however, nor does he convert like Naughty did last night.

We run the 5 headed monster and wax them through the 3 key forwards, ruck position, bench and man dropping back in defence - or we play a plodder/young bloke who is less talented. Let’s give it another crack. At least if Tim can’t find his dusters he can spend some time on the pine amd we lose nothing.

You want to play all four of Lobb, Naughts, JUH and Darcy? That’s a recipe for disaster if I’ve ever seen one. Especially considering we have English, Jones, JOD and Buku as other talls. And Bont is playing down there for extended minutes while his ankle recovers. That’s effectively 9 blokes 6’4 and over.

We’d be so immobile and easy to rebound against. Doesn’t matter how good their second efforts are it’s not enough to structure up properly if that ball comes in along the deck.

This is a very winnable game. Freo don't have the scoring power or key forwards to trouble us. Really think a win could be the boost the boys need and we enter a stretch of winnable games off the back of it

With Darcy back in the side Jackson , Amiss and Treacy are key forwards that can easily trouble us.

Bring our best and we will be thereabouts

Long flight for long legs.If Marra want it .
Just rotate one.Libba nearly died on the field.Aneurysm looked to me.Rest him as long as possible. He is precious to our club and season.
Out one of the long legs Darcy's turn maybe.
In Marra

I don't think all the talls: Naughts, Jamarra, Lobb and Darcy can play in the same team. They're all forwards and the risk of quick rebounds from our forward half is too great. Unfortunately, Lobb was last in so he should miss this week. Good position to be in to have an abundance of tall marking power. Jamarra unavailable would solve the selection dilemma.

Should expect with family matters Marra would possibly not want to be so far away. Hope everything turns out OK for him.

Assuming: Marra out, VDM available, Libba all clear.

After a big win we don’t expect many changes. A bit will ride on today’s VFL games with eyes on the future in Clarke and Buss.

If Clarke plays another good game he may get his first call up. Buss is currently behind JOD but JOD has not come back well compared to last year and so the door is ajar.

Also to see if Artie has another good game after a really quiet period. We seem a happier and stronger side with him in it but his form has been really poor.

One thing I would consider is playing Keath and resting Jones (it is a long season and he is probably out most important player - BrisVegas did this incredibly well with Lynch and added two years to his career and included no flights to Perth or giving JOD a game back in the twos. Keath has looked fit and well above in the limited VFL games I have seen.

Outs:

Harmes
Jones

VDM - has been doing what has been asked of him but running for links, chasing, effort and competitiveness wise but I think we are missing something with him - will he be a regular best 22? Was made more obvious when Garcia came in and brought something new. Would not be disappointed if he stays - he has earned the respect of the coach.

In:

Libba
Keath
Clarke to debut

Caleb is a weird one. Yes he is a great user and was awesome being the quarterback coming out of the backline when moved there but I think we overrate how many teams would just plug and play him there.

This is the first of our 5 interstate games plus I at the cattery rating them in terms of difficulty.

1. GWS
2. Cats
3. Port
4. Swans
5. Freo
6. Crows

If we can win 3 of those we will be going well. To have a chance of doing this we need to beat Freo but not going to be easy.

Out
VDM (Didn't get concussed but I think they should do the same they did Libba).Sanders (Needs some time in the 2s to work on playing a full game).

In
Libba & Buss for his Debut.

Unlikely JUH will be back to play next week.
I'm guessing one way or another Bus (and AJ) will be heading over, either playing or as emergency, usually do that in WA games for ex WA locals.

Richards was elite in the middle he has to stay there.

In Libba, Daniel, Juh (if available)

Out VDM, Williams, Bramble (sub)

Sanders to play a full game in VFL, I don’t like him not getting game experience sitting as sub. Jamarra to play on the wing instead of Williams. Daniel to half back for Bramble if he plays well today. Garcia takes VDM role as high half forward and Libba back into the midfield.

In: Libba, JUH (if ready), Clarke
Out: Sanders, Darcy, VDM

All outs rested/managed. JUH comes back in if ready so either Darcy or Lobb has to make way. Tough decision to make as both are worthy to keep in the side. Sanders to go to VFL to build some form and force his way back. VDM to be rested, Clarke given an opportunity in that role. If Richards goes back, then one of the half back flankers to be the sub.

Lots of different changes being proposed here which might indicate not an easy team to pick this week.

Depending who's available, I'd be looking at giving Sanders a run in the 2s and Darcy a rest.

VDM and Gallagher both on the fringe to me. So I'd be looking there for any further changes.

Nice to see Dale and Macrae back in form. Duryea and JJ both humming along also. Backline is performing really well IMO.

When a player like JUH takes time out for ‘personal reasons’ is he now tarred with the accusations that many are now asking because of the AFL’s inability to ask the tough questions and confront them? It’s not fair on any who miss games this way and don’t play ‘Russian roulette’ with their careers.
