I think Austin Wonaeamirri will probably win the rising star nomination this week, but Mackay and Tippett are inching closer each week, and cannot be too far away. :thumbsu:
Exactly. You can't compare any player from the same draft, head-to-head, until some water has passed under the bridge (at least a couple of seasons, anyway).
This whole Dangerfield v. Ebert thing is a waste of everybody's energy. If the kids name was Bob Smith instead of Brad EBERT (SA...
This may only be a suspicion, but I think Asgardian suffers from a superiority complex.
Whatever you do, don't make a spelling mistake... he'll pounce.
Crows and Port both have more interstate players on their lists than locals (22 and 23 respectively).
So both SA teams are clearly disinterested in the so-called go-home factor.
This is a national comp, or hadn't anyone noticed?
Re: ND Pick # 10 - Patrick Dangerfield - Geelong Falcons
I'm sold! This kid flys, and more importantly keeps his balance.
He's very underage, which explains why the AFC are 'happy' for him to stay back in Melbourne for one season.
Speaking of underage the Crows have 2 of the 10 youngest...
I'm sensing that everyone is feeling nervous about using our first pick on yet another tall or ruckman. I know I am. Our track record, well... yada... yada...
Seeing we have the Texas Ranger sewn up, I'd rather pass on Henderson/Grant (who don't sound like elite forwards, a la Riewoldt or...
Re: Scott Welsh leaving?
Insightful post Vader. Well done.
And a good wake-up call from the Mad Dog: "People are forgetting....it's Scott Welsh FFS." :thumbsu:
Regarding the so-called weakness of this year's draft. Isn't that more in relation to the lack of out-and-out stars, say first-round picks. I wouldn't of thought that once you get down to our picks 27,30,38 & 57 that it would make much difference from year-to-year.
Just thinking out loud.
Re: Welsh gone
Disappointing to see Welsh leave (particularly because he is just about our most accurate shot for goal), but I respect the club's decision and I also respect Scott's need for better job security.
If there was any doubt that the club was going through its biggest overhaul...
Why can't the AFL go back to the old way, where whoever you play in the first 7 rounds you play in the last 7 rounds. It was much more logical.
I'm with you. I find this bloody annoying. But the Crows' draw in terms of who we play... is pretty darn fine.
We play 4 of the bottom 6 teams...
As proven by Clarke and Kenelly, there is surely some merit in dabbling in Ireland. I'd be disappointed if the AFC hasn't at least discussed it. Be a good question to put to Triggy.
Right at this very minute... oldest to youngest...
1 Freo
2 Sydney
3 St Kilda
4 Adelaide
5 Bulldogs
10 Collingwood
6 Melbourne
7 Geelong
8 Kangaroos
9 Essendon
11 Richmond
12 Port
13 West Coast
14 Brisbane
15 Hawthorn
16 Carlton
Yeah I agree with all the above regarding the need for small forwards/pacy midfielders.
Pick 10 will obviously be the best player available (no matter the size). If Ebert falls to 10, then grab him coz' he's the one true SA gun going around.
The more I think about it, I'm pretty certain...
It's very difficult to measure each club's recruiting and development. In terms of recruitment, some clubs are better at the National Draft than others, some trade better, some use the rookie list better, others benefit from the father/son, etc.
There are so many factors. It's just too hard...
Now I know there are some arrogant Eagles' posters on BigFooty mate, but you're being a bit harsh on the supporters! If a Crows player got in trouble, why would that reflect on me?
That's what I thought, as well. At the end of the day, if we come away with 3 regulars (down-the-track), then that would be a great result. Law of averages suggests that 2 out of 5 would be more likely.
I thought it would be an interesting exercise to look back on the 5 draft pick numbers we’ve got in this year’s National Draft and see what players were previously picked up with them (in the last 10 years), as a sort of guide as to what we might expect. I haven’t included pick 75 (or whatever...
Right on. It's all about player list management, and that's what has cost Torney his spot.
Doughty would be gone too, if he wasn't contracted. He would know that 2008 is his last season.
OK, I'm gonna' get a little scientific on your arses, but here goes...
With any AFL squad, I reckon...
I wouldn't take it with a pinch of salt either, but surely you'd respect the opinions of an AFL club's recruiting team in comparison to a bunch of supporters? No disrespect to the Kangaroos board intended.
Exactly. Let's wait till he runs out onto the field before we pass judgement.
Back in 2003 when we drafted Scott Stevens I thought he was a total dud, and yet he's gone on to be a very reliable player and permament fixture in our team.
