East Perth Colts this year? Was one of the worst years, bad coaching has lead some of the standout boys leaving. Namely Della Franca and Hadden.
These country kids didn't get enough support from club or coaches. Della Franca left and played league for Bunbury, had a really good run with them...
Ye can play ok but have u watched him not a team player kicks to himself in the kick outs and handballs to other players but always wants it back.
Good plan if you want stats of 45 per game. To be honest needs to work on attitude seems to get aggressive when things don't go his way.
Wright is not old enough for draft this year. Don't see too many WA boys getting drafted this year, could only get one WA boy in all Australian team after 18s Championships and that was on the interchange and was an underage player. Looks like only 3 to 4 are getting a look in on the Phantom...
Ok so less kids are playing AFL football so that relates to less talent is that right? Wouldn't the same thing be happening in other states, but they seem to still be able to produce talent. What is WA doing wrong, it can not all be blamed on funding.
Della Franca is just a prime example of a young guy who has missed an opportunity to show his talent due to bad selection and there are other guys who have missed the same opportunity these more mature guys might have give you your ball muscle.
I hope your right about the 1998 group but they certainly have not make a difference this year with their football and athletic abilities lets hope that they get the development they need next year so they turn out as good as you reckon. Why would you abandon a under 18s team would you not try...
OK but playing these underage players has been to the detriment of our current 18 year olds is that really fair. These underage players should be given the chance to train with the 18s squad but not play in championship. Treat it as a development year. Maybe if the academy developed this...
If you are saying the talent is not there then why isn't it. If the Academy is doing its job then it should have selected 18 year olds that do have the talent like Della Franca. Some talented 18 year olds have missed out so that under age players can play and that certainly hasn't paid off.
I don't know that you can put it all down to funding. I just think the whole set up is wrong. These boys are taken in as 16 year olds and the Academy seem to be able to turn them out OK but the problem is that there is nothing for the gap year (17 year olds) and this is were the system is...
Yes something is very wrong with the state academy they seem to do ok with the 16s but either their development of talent is not working or their selecting the wrong players. Most of the staff have been with the academy for more than 10 years maybe been their too long. Needs a change.
Yes you are right, they certainly let Della franca down and possible other 18 year olds.
Hopefully changes are made to ensure other young boys don't get treated the same and WA can be proud of their State Academy and its achievements.
Given all the work he put in pre season and the fact that he has been in state for last two years his non inclusion in state is a mystery.
He has not played for 10weeks and has just had his 4th game so I think he has a lot of potential. WA Sate selections has been a disaster and this is...
Della Franca didn't make squad because he had a broken wrist. Is a lot better ruckman than any who did make state squad and he is showing his versatility as a ruck forward. May be should check his stats for last colts game.
East Perth were better on the day, Swans played ok but were just out classed.
Della Franca's big last quarter made a difference kicked 3 goals and Stan Wright was a major contributor.
Yes was a really good game
Della Franca had a ripper 18 possessions and 5 goals. Looks like developing into a really good tall ruck/ forward. State may be sorry they didn't pick him even with wrist injury. Only had four games this season and on track to have a really good season.
Stan Wright...
No but WA just got beaten by SA by 73 points
Don't like there chances against Vic metro
Maybe they should have had more 18 year olds that maybe don't have the so called X factor but at least can play football,
watched replay of SA WA game what a joke. Totally out of their league.
What happened to 18s last weekend got smashed. Could this be a repeat of last year with only one win.
If this happens could this mean WA drops down to Division Two next year.
Yes EP wanted it more but I think Della Franca might have given them a bit more height and he does have ability in ruck and forward. The team just seemed to gel better than in previous weeks.
Watched EP Vs WP last week was a good game EP have also lost some players but still seemed to put it together although they had della franca back from injury who scored two goals. Surprised he is not in state this year.
OK I agree but some really good 18 year olds have missed out because younger 17 year olds have taken their place. Who decides that these selected players have AFL potential. I just feel that because this years 18 year old haven't got the same number of talented players as previous years that...
what is this X factor I thought State 18s was to showcase your best 18 year olds, you might be able to jump, show athletic ability, and maybe a few tricks but can u play football, be a great team player and work your guts out for a common goal. That's what makes a great footballer. This year...
