Kelly is the kind of guy that I wouldn't mind as depth on a basement salary contract in fairness. If a defender gets injured he's a solid option to fall back on.
I'd take a 4th rounder if we could use the pick well in trade or drafting a particular target player, though.
All though I don't expect us to win a game this year, we seem to have the wood over St Kilda enough so that we could give them a run for it.
We absolutely must drop or rest one of Sloane/Matt, Sloane's injured and Matt is either so unfit or emotionally unavailable that he's a liability.
Give...
Hitouts are the icing on a modern ruckmans game. Ideally you've basically got a 6th midfielder who covers the ground, tackles, wins clearences and provides a marking target/outlet from defence.
Absolutely correct. We have some absolutely brain-dead commentators taking the lead in the AFL. BT is literally heralded for being a buffoon, Jude Bolton can barely form a coherent sentence, Bruce's special comments are limited to repeating a players last name in progressively deeper tones of...
It's really been a weird obsession having the third tall plus Kelly for so many years.
We've always run two key defenders, third tall (lever, Doedee, Keath), Kelly, lock down small (Brown) and two less accountable attacking defenders (Laird and Smith).
That's incredibly lop sided given none...
There'd be something mentally for mids when they know they've got their opposition covered for speed from the stoppage. Confidence to burst away and even if they don't get complete seperation, get the clearance.
Collingwood doing it to Hawthorn as they do it to us.
If his body can hold up to the top level long term, he will be one of the better balanced defenders going around imo.
Solid defensively, quick, clean, good vision and ball skills.
He doesn't have one stand out trait to my eye, but a blend of characteristics that should put him in a good...
Would be a potential top 10 if he had more speed I think.
No idea on his endurance numbers but he might just be a touch slow if he is the kind of mid that needs to be rested forward at AFL level. Do like him though.
In regards to small/medium forwards.
This year we've pretty much got McAdam, Murphy, Stengle and Davis listed. You could count McHenry at a pinch, but he isn't a forward long term imo.
We know Murphy isn't a long term option, and we should know by the end of the year on McAdam and Davis...
Imo, Himmelberg should move into a key defensive roll, then develop McAsey as either a forward or a third tall defender (transitioning into a key post in time).
Draft one of Ugle-Hagan/Thilthorpe at 1, best available mid with some size at ~10. If we get Crouch compo in the early first round...
I'm by no means sold on Ned, but what I saw in the SANFL was seriously classy at times.
I just ran this player comparison through footywire. I think this is the type we need to develop him toward becoming.
While I don't think he'll make it, he more than deserves a solid block in the guts to show us what he can do.
I think Ned needs to be in there as well tbh. His attack on the man is absolutely insane, and it's defensive pressure that we completely lack in there right now.
Big fan of his. Worst case is a Degoey type of forward/mid, best case is something like Dusty.
Very good chance to be available at GWS first pick given the ACL. Similar slide to Kemp last year.
Gallucci I agree.
Jones and McHenry however...
I don't think any junior mid in the comp could really stand up and raise their head above the pool of dogshit that is our team right now.
We have past all Australians in Matt Crouch, Brodie Smith, Rory Sloane and Rory Laird all playing like...

Laird and Crouch would be well off to look at offers while they're up in Qld, genuinely not sure if anything big will happen in time for them at Adelaide.
