If it turns out north are going to take a mid then I’d be trading up to 2, we need a high class mid. Maybe 7+F1 for 2, then 8 split with GWS.
2- FOS, Smith or Draper
15&16 - Trainor and Hynes (or hold 8 for Allan)
I just see a player in his highlights who shuts down opposing mids with ease, seems to close ground on them and is strong through the tackle. Think he’d excel at the role.
Why would I do it…. Because I know bugger all about footy maybe…?
I see Allan playing a defensive mid role, similar to Rowbottom for Sydney. Just get in and stop the opposition mids from having space allowing our other mids to be more attacking.
Genuine question for those who love Reid, who do you think he projects out to play like?
I’ve heard Pendles, but he’s 190cm (Reid 180cm) and I think is more athletic then is generally recognised.
The way I see it if we want 2 quality mids then there are two good possibilities…
Ideal - north trade down with Richmond and take Tauru. That leaves 6 quality mids on the board and we’ll get 1 to pair with Allan. (Reid isn’t in the 6 as I see it)
Less good - trade 8 + for 2 taking FOS to pair...
I’ve had a look at our list 26 and under by position and quality. I was pretty generous on who will make it. I was surprised how light on we are for talls. King, Hammer, Sharman, Keeler (you could add Shoey as well, but I had him as a HBF).
I have us needing in order 2 quality mids, ruck, key...
While I agree with what you’re saying I’m not sure it completes the whole picture. We still struggled to be damaging out of stoppage IMO which would greatly improve us. Also, depth is still an issue and ideally we add depth at the top end.
Having said all that, we need to pick best available.
There is one clip where he fumbles everything. All the other clips he seems fine. Maybe highlights vs all interactions? Or just a bad game? Not sure.
I’m way too into hotton now…. Would be happy to take him at 8 or better yet trade back in for him.
So if Reid is a HHF/ Mid and so is Hotton but they are completely different players….
Who projects to be the better player? Given neither IMHO will be full time mids?
Don’t know if 100% agree with a total prioritisation of speed (not saying you go that far in this post) but overall agree that speed is becoming a more important part of the midfield mix.
This is why I’m super keen on hotton, mid forward with plenty of toe.
Those that aren’t enjoying trade week this year cooked. This is entertaining AF, it’s like a bunch of Nuffies got given the list management job for a bunch of clubs!!!!
Will be interesting who blows their list up like north and Essington. WCE? Melb? Pies? Ha
Thing is if we do a deal for 3, 7 and 13 and north hold pick 2 and take Tauru then one of Lalor or FOS will be available at 3.
Paired with Smilie and Hotton/Lindsey would be perfect.
FOS/Lalor
Smilie
Hotton
I’ve been all about Hotton for a while and can’t help but think the limbo that Ollie is in is because we are considering Taj.
I think I’ve settled on Taj at 8 pending no big sliders….
Dream would be get 9 from the bombers and two mids slide plus Hotton….
The Dream…..
Smilie, Smith, Hotton….
I’ve not watched heaps of footage, so take with salt and I know bugger all about anything football, but what I saw he fumbled so many ground balls.
Has anyone else noticed this from Lindsay? Am I off the mark?
Whether we move or hold 7 and 8 depends on who you like in the draft and expect to be at our pick.
For mine, I don’t like Reid and expect him to be next in line at 8 or we reach a little for the Tavalia guy. So 8 seems a lot less valuable than 7 in my draft order. I’d be trading 8 and FF for...
I’m curious to what order people’s preferences are for say the top 6-8. It’s so hard to pick.
This is my preference,
FOS
Smith
Draper
Smilie
Lalor
Trainer
Hotten
Langford
I think it depends how marshal is played forward. I think if he plays the Jeramy Cameron role up the field he’d be unreal.
Big Ruck to help our midfield. Marshal is awesome around the ground, but at stoppage his tap work is poor and he hacks it forward which has been pretty ineffective. He can...
I know, I come and go on the titanic! He could easily be playing in the Keeler CHF spot. The point of the depth wasn’t to suggest they shouldn’t be in the 23, just that they could be while all other missing players needs to be turned over.
I agree totally, but in two years time most of those older guys will still be in their prime. Webster was my question mark, stocker, Paton or McClennon I think be his replacement.
I also like hastie and think he’ll make it. I think where I was going was to contend you’ll most likely be a...
So I started to put together what I think our 23/squad should look like in 2 years time if we want to contend. Interestingly it wasn’t as far away as I thought it might be… obviously lots of water to go under the bridge, but I think we should push marshal forward and bring in a big ruck, we also...
So I’m a big yes to Parker and continuing to bring in older experienced players past prime on the cheap. It seems the cheapest and most effective solution to having no middle age bracket players to guide the youth. One per year on two year deals would be ideal for 3-4 years.
Players like...
If we look at what’s wrong with where we’re at….
Top 4 for scoring from D50 (tick)
Bottom 2 for scores from front half and centre clearance.
Majority of scores are from turn overs, we don’t do it where it counts. Middle and forward.
We are also bottom 2 for scores per inside 50 and last for...
Reading BF discussions for years this Battle discussion is the best I can remember. Generally thought provoking, and fleshing out the complexity of where we stand as a club.
I’m sure it’s been mentioned but I haven’t read it so I thought I’d add to the Battle discussion…. But not having battle on the books would free more crap to chase LDU with.
If Battle gave us pick 5 and the ability to snag LDU you be crazy to say no….
Not to pile on Bonner…. Even though I don’t rate him as more than depth….
On those stats he’s had 18 scores against from turnovers, second most on the list. Not great I’d think,
They tend to be without much pressure as well it seems, not like hack kicks out of the contest.
I also don’t rate...
Strangely I like the gap between 8th and 9th, it’s the perfect line to prevent tanking. Give up playing finals and get two good picks…. Seems a tough choice.
To me the gap promotes volatility, all the talent for the bottom clubs and just as importantly not much at the top. Yeah it would suck...
