I think four first rounders is a bit much, how are we going to fit 7 new draftees in and get them games. Last year we debuted every draftee even for a couple of games which I think is massive. I don’t think we could rotate another 7 through. At the very least the four first rounders should expect to play.

3 first rounders this year maximum for me
No gorge on firsts this draft, FA next year, then wait out the Tassie compromised drafts.

Question. Why can't Essendon directly trade with GWS for 15 & 16?

Will they still be gobbled up by points?

What's to stop whomever has pick 10 from bidding and them not having the points?

Marc McGowan on Josh Smillie. Richmond are very keen, but….

“The Saints will potentially jump in first with their back-to-back top-10 selections”

The opportunity to potentially join the Tigers’ rebuild under Adem Yze at effectively ground level excites Smillie.

“I’d want to walk straight into the club and [make an impact] from day one,” he said.
“I’m a very determined player, and I want the best for myself and everyone around me. There are a lot of highly talented and really good blokes who are here [in the draft], and everyone will have the same mindset of doing that. Just because we’re 18 years of age, it doesn’t mean we can’t change anything.”

Whether we move or hold 7 and 8 depends on who you like in the draft and expect to be at our pick.

For mine, I don’t like Reid and expect him to be next in line at 8 or we reach a little for the Tavalia guy. So 8 seems a lot less valuable than 7 in my draft order. I’d be trading 8 and FF for 3 and 14, we’d be taking the same number of firsts to the draft and one would be high so I don’t see the risk of missed opportunity next year.

3 - FOS, Lalor, Jagga
7 - Smilie
14 - Hotton

No he won't. Elliot Himmelberg just left Adelaide. He is younger and got a 3 year contract and got no compensation for Adelaide. Highly doubt we will get anything if he leaves...

Was obviously on minimum chips

Skunk will command decent coin

If that's his attitude I would have thought the Saints would be a great place for him. Phillipou and Wilson should be enough evidence that he can play from round one if he wants it badly enough.

There can only be one dusty. These kids are dreaming. 🤪

it does irk me a bit they all idolise Dusty and Richmond and seemingly want to be picked by them. Do they not know Dusty was a Saints supporter as a kid 🤪🤪 haha

I suppose thats the result of having a dynasty run in their highschool years, end up with draft kids who grew up during that era who idolise the dynasty club. And star player.

Another bit of draft tampering !!

On a serious note, does anyone know who the ‘I won’t leave melbourne’ draftees in the top end are this year? Would mean they slide a bit

I've had a sneaking suspicion for a few weeks that Smillie looks to be the most likely to land at pick 7 - can't see any of the clubs above us taking him unless Richmond get pick 6 and miss out on Langford or Melbourne go for him

I think it'd be a good pick, but I really hope we don't pick another slow mid at 8. Needs to be someone with run and spread - Langford, Travaglia, Lindsay. If Reid is available at 8, hopefully a club is willing to give up something to climb up so we can slide back and still take our first preference

Finn O’Sullivan at 7
Josh Smillie at 8
Sid Draper at 10

Wow dream scenario two of those would be elite

That's the third 'power ranking' I've seen that has FOS and/or Draper available at 7 + Smillie

FOS + Smillie or Draper + Smillie genuinely would be ****ing amazing. FOS + Draper would be PH-worthy

Why not get pick 9 and take all three?!

Gonna be a fun month and a half of hypotheticals
That would be ideal but the power ranking does include Ashcroft and Kako in the top 6 so technically we wouldn't even have FOS & Smillie. Draper + Travaglia still a good result though

No way Kako goes that early - not opposed to us putting a bid on with our second pick (although that's largely just to screw with Essendon).

10 years ago - every half decent tall idolised Rooey.

Nah it does make sense. Melbourne need x-factor small forwards and Kako suits them perfectly

Phoenix Gothard wasnt seen as a top 20 pick last year and went at 11 because Giants had a specific need for a player of his type

Melbourne also went slightly early on Tholstrup last year so they clearly are ok with reaching for players

If a club is desperate enough, they will pay up

Let’s be honest fellas, if the draft plays out as per the whispers… Absolutely every chance it plays out as per the below. (Will change depending on pick swaps.)

1. FOS/Lalor - Richmond
2. Fos/Lalor - Richmond
3. Jagga - Eagles
4. Draper - Crows
5. Armstrong - Dees
6. Tauru - North
7. Smillie - ST KILDA
8. Langford - ST KILDA

Travaglia Lindsay Trainor & Reid still on the board.

Be borderline sackable not to throw everything at another pick between 9-12.

Do you have a link or a clearer picture? Love to read it too.

Interesting they have Kako so high, good piece of information for extortion though 🤣

Because of the Academy boys Finn would be 5, Smillie at 6 and Draper at 7.

I'd be super happy with Draper and Armstrong though.

Feel like Eagles would take Draper over Jagga. No idea what Crows would do with Lalor/Draper off the board, maybe Reid

The more I research the draft I reckon Travaglia is the one for us. Break lines, wins contested footy, can intercept, tackles hard, decent skills. He’s the full package and prototype. His profile suggests to me that he won’t be a half back. He will seamlessly transition to the midfield.

Lindsay not a bad suggestion given 2 of our 1st choice wings are both over 30, Wood and Hill.
I don't like the thought of taking a winger in the top 10. Wingers are role players and can be found late in drafts or on the scrap heap - Wood pick 41/DFA, Hill pick 33. None of the league's best wingers were early picks; Gulden p32, Daicos p57, D'Ambrosio mid-season pick. Unless we see Lindsay as an inside mid going forward, Id pass

Plus, we have Byrnes and Wilson who look like long-term wingers. Liam O'Connell potentially as a Wood replacement. Curtis Taylor under consideration. Plenty of options

Would MUCH prefer Travaglia

Yeah I can see him going back half of the top 10 easily. A lot to like.
