I was just thinking this - surely if a player like Dennis or Davis are at our next pick and we rate them really highly, we’d have to consider paying out one of AJ or Oleg
I'd also like to know if anyone has any idea around roughly what time the selections will actually start (I assume the coverage will begin with an exhaustive assessment of last nights happenings), and in particular ours.
Trying to coordinate what time to get home from work with our selections...
I love it, get him in! As much as these super fit, robot-esque, elite, top tier draftees are selected for a reason - there's nothing quite like the raw/talented, but "less than conditioned" shall we say, prospect that we can all enjoy the gamble on and dream of him kicking on and becoming a star! 🤣
The biggest thing for me with AJ - he needs to develop another “trick”. Yes we know he is fantastic with a clean run and jump at the ball, but when that’s taken away from him - what else has he got?
Gets muscled out of contests easily, doesn’t seem a natural front/centre type goal sneak, lacks...
Tbh I'd be shocked if North don't bid at 2. I can understand Richmond wanting to reserve the "prestige" of the number one pick for their own player and all the benefits, promotion etc that goes with it.
North would have a difficult argument imo in not-bidding on him - for mine (and for many...
An astute pick up and one that fils an obvious need - was surprised realizing he was a year a younger than Checkers, so a two year deal for a forward that's; 1 always been a consistent goal kicker, and 2 historically been very durable across his career, just seems a tidy bit of business imo.
Do we have room to re-rookie reef if that was the route we went down?
I like Reef but fear his time might be up - but I would love us to give him a proper summer and a full year at FB before letting him walk.
For me it makes sense to be looking at a guy like that - someone that bit older that if needs be can come in and do a role, especially if there are questions marks over Frampton and Dean. I know they're very rare finds, but if someone could come in and have half the career Mihocek has had, but...
Given the question marks around our KPD stocks heading in to 2025, is there a chance someone like a Sam Glover could be picked up in the rookie draft as a cheap option down back? Had a really good season and won our VFL BnF and was in the team of the year for the VFL side.
I'm not for a minute...
Geez I'm quite surprised by this from Port. 20 year old KPF who had some very big wraps coming in to his draft season - 203cm KPF/Ruck is always going to take some time to develop
Pending SANFL watchers being able to give a more in depth update on how he's gone these last 2 seasons, he is...
And beyond the Rocketman there's 2 AA defenders waiting to stop them in their tracks.
Sounding more and more like a boss level in a video game 😂 start the season already!
I actually really prefer when we go with this sort of set up i50. We have so many dangerous players at a forward 50 stoppage, JDG, Elliott, Nick, Bobby, Beau - having McStay take that forward stoppage and a bit of extra room in there for these guys to get to work could be extremely damaging...
I think something we'll appreciate in Membrey is his work rate - more so that it gives us the luxury of not needing to overwork a Mcstay or Mihocek around the ground, and keeping one as a deepest forward.
In particular Checkers works so hard up and down the ground, having another guy that can...
Yes the Richmond of old's recruiting style seemed to be more generated via a dart board than anything else - I'm sure they're hoping for their own sake that it's improved since then.
I certainly don't mind seeing the mob from Punt Road spend some time down the bottom - especially after the...
Agreed - it's very strange position from the media to labelling Richmond as the "winners" of the trade pool right now - 5 years from now we'll be able to make that call because we will have seen what has become of these picks and draftees.
Tbh though - I don't mind the approach from Richmond...
Acknowledging the draft is quite a way down the path - but was there any indication from Leppa that we'd consider bundling our picks together to move up the order or in to next years etc?
We historically have a good record of converting late picks in to AFL level players - so not the worst...
Don't mind this idea - values Robertson at about a mid third rounder which I wouldn't want to pay more than for him tbh.
I still think we'll see one of Fin or Reef move before the end of tomorrow - so that could be part of a Membrey deal if that link comes true?
Agreed with the deep draft part - Carlton putting a fair few eggs in the basket of pick 3 becoming an elite player in the comp.
I think the other thing is - looking at the draft reports and rankings, the WA top talent doesn't appear to really come in to calculations until after pick 10, and...
I’m bidding my time on this - few scenarios have it included, others don’t, wait and see how it all comes out in the wash I guess.
If 36 is also being involved I’d assume (hope) there might be something a bit more than the proposed pick in the 50’s coming in alongside Dan. GC might be...
Fantastic work Ponsford - thanks for that. I think the numbers are even more skewed when you consider the absolute basket cases North and West Coast have been during that time, in which (similar to Richmond this year) they've had no choice but to load up heavily via the draft. Additionally...
Agreed - and tbh I think people like Kane and others are far too quick on dismissing young players these days. If they don't all come in and hit the ground running like an ND or Reid they're forgotten about.
We all saw the promising signs from Ed's last half of the season, HDM and TJ are in...
Has he also forgotten that in the last 3 drafts we've taken 5 kids ranked within the top 25-30 prospects in their pool? How many clubs have taken more than that in the last 3 drafts? Especially considering in that window we've played in a prelim and a GF.
2021 Draft: Nick Daicos
2022 Draft: Ed...
In fairness to Cooney you have to respect the way he can waffle for days on end, without actually ever saying anything.
Reminds of that Cat in the Hat quote "Well, sure, he can talk. But is he saying anything? No, not really."
Edit: Fully aware I have just outlined the entire premise of Trade...
It's slightly of topic here - but tbh I think it's the right play from the tigers.
Given the market isn't stacked full of stars that can pull them out of the hole they're in, hitting the draft is a better alternative - rather than cuff themselves to a lifetime of mediocrity like St Kilda have...
