    Discussion Pierce "Vs" Longer

Don’t let King anywhere near the ruck. I’m hoping Longer or Pierce can make the spot their own but both need to improve significantly if we’re to be competitive this year. At this point I don’t know which one has the higher ceiling. Maybe Marshall converts to a full time ruckman.

    Discussion Random Discussion

I think we are going to go somewhere in the middle six, 7-12. So I think there's a slim chance we make the eight but a lot more likely we end up 9-12. The draw is a lot easier and with our additions we look a lot quicker. A change in style may get the best out of the list.

    Autopsy 2018 NAB AFL Draft

Looks like an absolute ripper to me. Huge upside and will learn to use his size. I can rest a bit easier now knowing that we had a crack at him.

    Senior Max King

Well I’m disappointed to have not taken a midfielder as we’re in desperate need of pace and foot skills. I’m also worried about his knee and the higher chance of injuring it again. Picking tall forwards is a very difficult game and I hope we develop him into a modern tall forward capable of...

List Mgmt. 2018 NAB AFL Draft: November 22nd & 23rd

If not Rankine then Rozee. I also like Smith or RCD if we split our pick. Hopefully there are some trades and surprises. Should be interesting.

List Mgmt. 2018 NAB AFL Draft: November 22nd & 23rd

Anyone else like RCD? Seems to me to have plenty of upside. Once he fills out a bit and gets used to playing with a bigger frame he will start racking up the possessions. Looks quite clean and pacy too. Not sure if we'd take him but if we split our top pick and he's available I'd take him.

    NGA - A complete rort

I'm sure the AFL have some intelligent people working out these rules but they've yet to learn the law of unintended consequences. Things are introduced quickly, errors are found, gaps are plugged, loopholes are closed and then they move on to the next issue. The end result is layer upon layer...

    Most Boring VFL/AFL Player Encounters/Sightings.

I saw Jeremy Cameron in a restaurant in Bali. He was with his partner and was staring blankly at his drink. Think it was a local beer.

The absolute state of Channel 7 commentary

I've got no idea whether it would work as well for our game but soccer-style commentary of one play-by-play caller and one special comments analyst would be ideal. Watching PL matches is enjoyable in large part due to the calibre of the commentators. There are legends like Martin Tyler who...

List Mgmt. 2018 NAB AFL Draft: November 22nd & 23rd

He probably will but the upside is more than worth the risk. If he is available we have to take him IMO, and we probably will. We’ve been far too cautious and to complete this rebuild I think we have to take a gamble on a player like him.

**** that was cringey. It didn’t even make sense. If I score you’re in and if I miss...you’re still in. OK Jarryn.

List Mgmt. 2018 NAB AFL Draft: November 22nd & 23rd

If Rankine is still available at our pick we simply must take him. I'm almost too scared to see him slide to 4 because we might pass on him. He is a special talent with a huge ceiling.

List Mgmt. 2018 St Kilda Trade Thread Part 4

Who knows? IIRC we have 34 on the senior list pending Longer re-signing. If Pierce pens a deal and gets moved to the senior list, and/or Roma does too, then it’s 36 and we have up to 4 spots to fill as well as 2 on the rookie list. They may both stay on the rookie list though, which would mean...

List Mgmt. What could have been...

Great points. I think we made mistakes in 2013 and perhaps the 2014 draft could have been better if we went down your hypothetical route. Getting rid of McEvoy and Dal Santo put us further down the ladder but that was part of the strategy of moving up the draft order for the rebuild. My mistake...

List Mgmt. What could have been...

This thread is to facilitate discussion and draw a more complete picture of the rebuild. I’m interested in others’ thoughts on our decisions to let players go as part of the strategy to accumulate higher draft picks.

List Mgmt. What could have been...

McEvoy and Dal Santo were good players. Stanley has matured into a decent player. Some of those decisions were strange. We did it to move up in the draft and probably to relieve salary cap pressure but they were part of a strategy that deliberately pushed us lower down the ladder in order to...

List Mgmt. 2018 St Kilda Trade Thread Part 4

Most media outlets didn’t rate our trade period very highly. Nothing new. It’s a reflection of our ladder position and the caliber of player we brought in. A banged up Hannebery and Kent. If they come good then those same pundits will be praising this trade period. I think we struck the right...

List Mgmt. What could have been...

It’s a bit confusing I know but essentially I wanted to see the players we could have picked and whether, on balance, we made the right decisions. We moved various players in and out in addition to draft picks and I wanted to see what other people thought of our overall rebuild. Perhaps it...

List Mgmt. What could have been...

Seeing the discussion on this and some of our past trade periods convinced me to have a look at what could have been. I quickly went through all of our offseason movements back to 2013 to see what players we moved in and out and what kids we could have picked up had we held onto our original...

List Mgmt. 2018 St Kilda Trade Thread Part 4

They’re not meaningless for our blokes. Our uncontracted players will be offered a deal depending on the outcome of our trade period. If we sign our targets then players like Weller will be delisted I think. I suspect it is similar for some of the other players on that list.

Coaching Staff Billy Slater joins St.Kilda

Very interesting acquisition. Hopefully he can replicate the success of NM at Collingwood. Leadership is clearly an issue for us so this makes a lot of sense. He just might unearth our next captain. Good luck Billy.

VFL We need to talk about Sandy.

I wonder what SL and AB have planned for the Sandringham alignment. This is a situation that desperately needs fixing and I suspect they know it too. We can't expect to develop our players properly on-field, in their preferred positions, without playing them in a team over which we have full...

Roast The Chronicles of Alan Richardson - Part II - Richo Resigns (16/07)

The new-look coaching department should improve us but how long will it take to see the improvement? A new structure and game plan may take at least a season to fully implement and the skills needed to execute it will also need to be developed after a few years of sub-par development. Bringing...
