Actually very very happy with last years selections myself.

Particularly Clark , Coffield & Clavarino
and the boy Paton could turn out a gem given right development.
Paton is my eyebrow raiser for next season. Sinclair 2.0 with some extra toe. Pace, skill, and wait for it.......a solid kick for goal. What's not to like?

I don't see it with Walsh, kicks like a donkey with greased hooves. He's smart and drives the ball forward incessantly but he's determined more than classy. He looks good but he's not that outstanding to me. I think he's a 200 game player but he's no definite Dangerfield even though I think that's the type he projects to being. He doesn't do it for me for some reason. I actually think I prefer Smith as an extractor mid, that pace off one step makes me think his game will be something a bit different at AFL level, it's how Stuv gets his separation too. I like Ely Smith for that reason too, just moves quick from step one. It's a handy weapon.
Agree on Walsh

I'm with you, Gringo. Don't get me wrong, Walsh is very good, but I've seen his disposal as trending towards sloppy at times. Then again, he gets so much of it, at the lower level this disguises the fact. At the elite level he may get found out a bit. I certainly rate Rankine, JL and Max ahead of him. That's may be why I no longer have a job in the industry.

It'll be interesting to see where he fits in next year. Wasn't drafted in his draft year and then played some great footy as an above aged when they moved him to the back line. I think that's where he's best suited but we've already got so many fighting for those spots.

The thing I don't get is if gold coast were so keen why didn't they trade with us already? It's not like they have to see how the draft unfolds. We are literally the next pick.

I think the media is trying to beat up interest in live trading.
Could be the AFL just saying to the clubs.....hold off until the night lads. Make it exciting. Bring in Live Trading and nothing happens? I doubt it....

Same I doubt it.

Like I said why didn't GC just do this trade during trade week. There was no need to see how the draft fell. They could have pulled the trigger then.

Walsh is as bullet proof a pick as you can get. He’s almost faultless. If he had one flaw it would be that he could work on his inside game & defensive aspects. But why would he bother doing all the inside work when he’s a running machine, knows exactly where to run to get the pill & get off his man? He’s one step ahead of his opponents hence why he’s a ball winning machine. Whether it’s school footy, tac or rep he gets plenty & plenty of the ball. Just a gun. Damn I wish we could get him!

Indeed bird_man. Ideally, he would play in Gears' spot, but that ain't gonna happen. He is well suited to the midfield, pushing forward. Competition for Lonie and Long. His pace and outside run were two of the reasons we got him. Let's use him where he can display those traits. I must add, our recruiting has taken a turn for the better since 2015. Gresh, Long, Battle, Paton, Coffield, Clark and Marshall are all potential A graders. Could this be due to Chris Liberatore taking over the main recruiting role? If so, we might just be in much better hands than we were.

It’s hard not to love Rozee’s highlights & attributes. He brings pace, marking & skills. Recruiters would hope he becomes something similar to Fyfe or Yeo. But concerns about lack of production & an inside game cannot be dismissed. Best case is Elliott Yeo, worst case Jimmy Toumpas! Just not the guy I’d use a top 5 pick on. Too much of a gamble.

Caldwell (Oliver clone), Walsh (Josh Kelly) & Max King (Daniher) will be the three best players from the draft in retrospect IMO. Rankine will frustrate, Lukosious doesn’t appear to have the intensity & will get found out in finals type footy & Smith will get the best out of himself but still lack the talent to become A grade-elite IMO.

In order of ‘want’:

Walsh
Max King
Caldwell
Lukosious
Rankine
Rozee
Smith
Ben King

Why the Oliver comparison for Caldwell?

I thought Caldwell is all class rather than a accumulator?

Inside bull that breaks away from stoppages who has fantastic hands. Lower production than Oliver but more duel sided & arguably a better mark. Call it a ‘gut feel’ but I think he will be the guy many teams in the top 5 or so regret not taking.

I'm hoping the law or averages gives us a superstar this year, surely we are due for our recruiters finding us a Bont type of instant impact player.

Or maybe weve found them and then screwed up their development., Whichever it is..we need to get it done. Its a major factor in why other sides go past us

The more I watch of Rozee and Cadwell, the more I want both of them. But I also really want Max King.
Why couldnt this be the year we had two top 10 picks.

This is why we should move heaven and earth to get that second top ten pick. Bugger next year, let's spend it all now on two special talents. Max King and Caldwell will generate a buzz around the place as both are potential "franchise" players. Rozee would also be great, but in Coffield we already have a version of him. I still think Rankine is the best player in the draft, but he'll go before we get the chance to take him. The "consolation prizes" are pretty special.

He probably will but the upside is more than worth the risk.

If he is available we have to take him IMO, and we probably will. We’ve been far too cautious and to complete this rebuild I think we have to take a gamble on a player like him.
He will be the Judd of this draft. Anyone who overlooks him will be severely embarrassed in the future. If he's there at our first pick, grab him.

Hey George hows about a poll for who we want to get? Maybe allow 2 choices coz surely most would go rankine (or exclude walsh, luko and rankine from voting)?
Good idea.
Lets not forget to have "Unknown smokey" as a category

Has he had some injuries?
