I think we will take Max King. I still hope somehow we get Rankine, he's very hard to not want. Rozee to me is a stretch at 4. He's pretty much a utility. To me utilities and rucks should never go that high. For all the hype around the draft and live trading and having a first round separate, I doubt anything changes and predict this to be a very boring draft with a fairly set outcome. If we don't take King I think Smith is the most obvious one otherwise Caldwell looks a risky injury riddled but brilliant player.
Brendan Goddard went at #1 and he was easily the best player in his draft class

9 & 11, 8 & 13, 6 & 24, 5 & 15. Which looks the best?
I say we take Max King with 4. If he has already gone in the first three, then we would have to do one of those deals.
Obviously 5&15 is easily the best of those options and probably the most likely offer we will get as PA will be desperate to beat Adelaide to Rankine assuming it's him who's available.

5 + 15 the best deal.

Gives us one of King/Smith/Rozee and a free hit on guys like RCD, Duursma or Hill.

Goes from no one wanting him to pick 24 but wasn’t a breakout year ??? I’m aware he was a good player before then but no one wanted him!!! He didn’t turn heads until 2017. Saying we missed a trick is like saying we missed a trick by not getting Sam Mitchell in the 00 draft when every club overlooked him that year..

it was a breakout year if you dont follow the WAFL

the club dont select state league talent on a break out year. its why shane yarran waited another 12 months. same for liam ryan. they want to see consistency before they pull the trigger.

my point was kelly was available for 3 whole drafts with his exposed form. not one draft like you had claimed.

just on how we can play paddy and king in the same side .. i really dont have any issue putting that together ... Paddy at full forward, King at CHF .. Bruce third forward .. battle i see running the field not as a stay at home forward
i would set up the forward 6 :
Lonie, Paddy, Members
Billings, King, Bruce

obviously King needs to eran his spot first so he would be fighting with Roma for the CHF position... with our bomb long and hope forward 50 entries having 4 guys who can take a contested grab would be good .. plus when we come across a WCE who use McGov as that intercept mark he wont be able to play that as he will have his hands full defending (notice the game this year once we stopped McGov having his own way we started winning more and more contests)

That would be the slowest, least forward-pressure forward line of all time. We would want to have a brilliant midfield for that to work....

Sorry to intrude. Its just that something has been bugging me for a while. I am sure it has probably been talked about already but your club really must not rate paddy if they are going to pick max king at 4, regardless of whether he has the most talented at that spot. It is so obvious that you need someone with speed and skill through the middle more than anything else. Everyone says you are going to pick king but I couldn't bring myself to name him for the saints in my top ten for the draft machine competition. It didn't make sense to me.

Everyone has us taking Max at four.
If we take him at four and he spuds it up, then it will be another example of poor drafting by the Saints.
If we don't take him and we go for someone else, it will be StKilda clearly ignoring the best option.
if we take rankin at four and he spuds it up it will be seen as poor drafting ... it matters little who it is we take if they dont perfome then we are going to feel it for years ...
a fair chance someone from nowhere go's in the top 20 and is a out and out star and for years latter people will proclaim they were wanting him for our first pick and how dumb we were for not getting them

wat

Out of interest who are your top 10?

We are very keen to keep pick 4 at this stage but I’ve been told by two separate people today that we are very actively looking at another pick somewhere. Had a meeting with another club about this already today.

Surely will have to involve next year’s first then. I have no problem with this as we should finish in the 8 ;):D

sorry, i meant, couldn't name him for you at that pick. he could go before or straight after (most likely). i think i had him going to port.

Anyone else like RCD? Seems to me to have plenty of upside. Once he fills out a bit and gets used to playing with a bigger frame he will start racking up the possessions. Looks quite clean and pacy too.

Not sure if we'd take him but if we split our top pick and he's available I'd take him.

ok lets put it this way as you are a swans supporter ... when you had Tippet on your list as a tall forward di the trade bringing in Buddy bother you ?? i mean they play a similar position ... no i bet it didnt

for King and Paddy they as chalk and cheese players i can only see life in the forward line becoming easier for paddy when we have a 200+cm silky mover drawing the best defender ....

remember we made the combo of Gehrig , Riewoldt, Hamil, Kosi work ...

Don’t believe we can trade next years first given we traded out our future second.. correct me if I’m wrong

Didn't Geelong do that a few years ago and the AFL said "no problem" when they tried to do it again. Maybe it was Hawthorn? I can't remember. It was one of the AFL's darlings.

Technically yes, but maybe a second rounder could be part of the trade. Or we could beg the AFL to give us an exemption as getting two top picks this year would not be a foolish decision.

Cats and Hawks never seem to have a problem with the rules.

i understand the comparison but we gave up nothing in terms of draft picks for them and I don't think we are at such a precarious point as you currently are. also, i don't think you can compare buddy to either of those forwards. they are both more like tippet. our midfield was already well sorted at that point also.

if you are happy to go the way of another key forward, good luck to you but i think you will definitely have to recruit someone to kick it to them in the future.

And aggressive.
