Krueger left because he believed he was a good forward and we couldn’t fit him into our forward line. Collingwood offered him the opportunity to play forward and he did so, but constant injuries stopped him getting continuity.
I believe Collingwood gave him an extra years but their forward...
If during next season WC believe Reid will leave, why wait until he is out of contract, as WC will be in a worse position as they will then be forced to do a trade.
If they trade him at the end of next season, they lose a player whose heart is not in the club, and get a year’s start on...
The kick-in rule has been part of the game since 1859. It is similar in soccer, rugby union and rugby league.
A major reason for it is to prevent the ball being locked into the forward pocket by repeated ball ups and throw ins caused by a mass of players from both sides which is unattractive...
Kreuger is very injury prone. If he wants to continue his AFL career, he needs to rein himself in and not throw himself wildly at every ball. He has got the size and talent to be a good player, and he could be a valuable swingman, capable of playing forward, back and relief ruck. I think he...
Blicavs was carrying an injury last season but he did well in defence. I think it is time to pass the torch to SDK and prolong Blic’s career, by not having to run enormous distances every match with few spells.
Blics used to play on the wing between rucking. What a problem for the opposition...
I get the impression that SDK does not want to play in the backline, which consisted mainly of punching the ball away from very big forwards, particularly as his intercept marking dropped away. He is very good below the knees, and he was a midfielder before his growth spurt. He wants to be more...
I agree. For the forward line in general, on top of losing Hawkins and Rohan, Danger will spend more time forward but he will be managed and will only have 2 more seasons, Cameron is 32 and won’t be around forever, and Martin if he can be less injury prone may play forward but he might be gone...
Hawthorn just won the McClelland Trophy having finished 7th on the men's ladder and 2nd for the women. That is ridiculous. I think they give double points for the women's wins.
My point is that the top of the ladder team in the AFL should be rewarded with silverware that is worth winning in the...
I agree. But I believe the club that finishes top of the ladder should be rewarded with a piece of silverware that clubs and supporters really want to win. The only way of doing that is granting a draft pick, say second round, to the winner, unless they win the flag (being premiers and getting a...
Zach doesn’t pull any punches when talking about Bolton. Imagine how much worse it would have been for Zach if he had eaten one of those tiny airline biscuits.
That is why it should apply only between the arcs, as a legitimate attack is the lead into a pocket or flank by Cameron or Stengle, and you don’t want to punish an off pass that bounces over the line without reaching them.
Two big flaws in the game are playing safe by hugging the boundary line and not taking the exciting risk of going up the middle, and congestion around the ball up.
The first could easily be reduced by awarding a free for any kick that bounces over the line between the arcs without being...
She could see the umpire in front of her and forcefully, unnecessarily and deliberately pushed her opponent towards the umpire. Contact resulted and the umpire was unsighted and could not avoid it. A bad precedent to allow this to go by without a suspension.
I agree. But wouldn’t it be better for WC (should they finish say somewhere near the bottom next season) to trade him next season in order to get the draft or traded players from the draft picks they get for Reid a year earlier than when he is OOC and well before Tasmania comes into it?
I think...
I am not treating it as such. That is why I set the question with WC believing themselves that he didn't want to stay, based on conversations with him and observation of him etc. If Reid wants to stay, then obviously WC are unlikely to want to trade him, and my question doesn't arise.
That is not the point I am making. To make it easier for you, just assume for the sake of my question that WC finish near the bottom again. Of course, if they finish near or in the 8, it is a different situation, one that is irrelevant to my question.
If West Coast believe Reid will want to leave at the end of his 3 years, wouldn’t they be better off trading him next year when still under contract as they would get more and they would be able to draft/trade players a year earlier?
If they were contending, it would be different but they are...
You are forgetting that during the week before the Port final, the general view was that we would get well beaten in the midfield/ruck and we were 50/50 to win. Then Stewart pulled out and pessimism reigned.
After an impressive win, everything suddenly changed and we were going to win the...
It is odd that a club that plays most of its away matches at its home ground (which happens to be the GF and other finals venue), and even includes I think one premiership year playing their last 8 H&A games at the MCG, should complain about a ground Geelong has been playing at since the 1940s...
As you point out, since 2010 we have lost Ablett and gained only Danger, Cameron and Smith (who is not at the same level as them). This is hardly evidence of a club doing something against the rules to attract players. Danger and Cameron cost us a lot in draft picks, unlike Lynch to Richmond for...
We had the weakest mid/ruck combination in the top 8. We have only added Smith who hopefully recaptures his best form. Cam Guthrie probably won’t be as good as 2 years ago. Danger and Stanley another year older, and will be managed a lot. Bruhn will improve. Clark still a way off. Martin not...
