Clarko strikes me as one of those blokes that you wouldn't want to piss off - I think a frank answer today like he gave will hopefully stop the direct questions.
Fair points! I am just always concerned about a side that dominates so early in the season, much like us in 2012. I think you want to start peaking later in the year - so if the Bulldogs, Lions or Cats start to really hit their stride in the next 6-8 weeks I would be worried if I was a Dees fan.
I bloody love Dan Howe and always have. So glad he has had such a good run at it this year to show what he's worth. Our midfield is never as defensively brittle when he plays.
I'm still not completely convinced about the Demons. There's shades of Freo in 2015. Yes they're on top of or near the top of the ladder all season, but do they have what it takes to make it all the way? I am by no means writing them off, however they don't seem to have that killer blow that...
Always enjoyed his commentary also - was one of the few that always had positive things to say about our club when commentating as a neutral. Reminds me of Voss - seem to be good students of the game as well as impressive players in their own right, but possibly that didn't translate into being...
I think you summarised it best there yourself. Run with that sentiment. Read through the thread if you want to see what happens when people post driven by raw emotions of having sniffed some industrial grade solvents.
I’m not Nash’s biggest fan by a long shot, but there is something exciting about our best midfielder of the last 30-odd years thinking that a bloke who is almost 2 metres tall and 100kgs could be reinvented as a midfielder.
Unsure if you have seen this but it is a good insight to Sam's approach as a coach. Granted he likely knows he's on camera - but he seems to exude calmness.
You realise that people can be both:
a) Grateful for everything Clarko has done for the club and not have been out for his head; and
b) Grateful that the club is transitioning to the next phase if all relevant stakeholders have deemed this the best time to do so
I think Clarko will honour the contact for two reasons:
a) He's a man of his word.
b) He would feel a sense of duty to Sam to ensure he is as ready as he can be to take over in 2023.
Well I just hope he is back fit and in brown and gold - I miss watching him in a semi-functioning forward line. He would be excellent both with and for Kosi.
It's why I hope Gunston can get on the park for a good portion of the rest of this season. Am keen to see how the forward structure looks with him in it also He may have a great late-career flourish with Kosi taking the bigger defenders.
Nice feel-good tweet from the club. Sure as hell hope I get to have as good an innings as Joyce to keep watching the Hawks for quite a few decades more:
I’ve seen a few people raise this and I think the leadership of captaincy and coaching is a very, very different beast. It’s also been 12 years since Mitchell handed over the club captaincy and I’m sure he’s matured and developed as a human since then - in addition to being a qualified coach now...
Guess it was just coincidence that there was only one year between 1966 and 2000 where Hawthorn had an indigenous player on the list. Being that Turnbull implicated a club official who was there in 1995 when he joined the club, Kennedy, Jeans and Parkin were all absolved.
The club even admits...
You’re right, it was truly outrageous of me not to speak out against a systemic racist recruiting policy that wasn’t made public at the time when I was in high school. I’ll try better in future.
We can already thank Mitchell for getting Newcombe on the list - so him having influence over list management this off-season may be a blessing in disguise.
That's what has me fairly calm about things. I think Clarko has been very hands-on with Mitchell's coaching ambitions long before Mitchell even went to Perth, we are basically getting someone with intensely high footy IQ coupled with years of mentorship by Clarko.
Considering all the wraps on...
Belichick is a good example, however he is now into that third decade and ended up gifting Tampa Bay a Superbowl and it will be interesting to see what he can accomplish without the greatest QB of all time at his disposal. A bit like how Popovich is undoubtedly a great coach but is finding it...
