Ah ok, i hadn't realised that he was recruited from our zone. Its very fortunate he lived in our recruiting zone and not one of the other closeby ones such as Woodville.
Someone else mentioned Stephen Curtis, i can't believe i forgot him before, he was one of my favourite players in the 80's...
Abers was born in Ouse in Tasmania, i'm not certain of how old he was when he moved to Adelaide, and whether or not it was to play footy with the PAFC or was a family move. Someone might be able to advise re this.
Wes Fellowes immediately springs to mind for worst, Ray Ebel wasn't great although hindered by injury. Stephen Knights offered a bit but didn't deliver. In the AFL - Shattock was obviously disappointing, whilst of the draftees i was quite disappointed with the Murray brothers and Koulouritis...
Just trying to be realistic and not get ahead of ourselves :)
The side has inexperienced key defenders and there is also the x factors of how the young players will go after a promising first up year, and how the playing group in general will respond after the 07 GF.
Looking forward to any info/photos you can provide Toots. In particular how Brett Ebert is going, hopefully hes showing signs that hes over his op and will be ready by round 1 of the regular season.
Won the under 15's medal in the RMFL medal a couple of years ago i think. i haven't seen him play but follow the league closely.
I think he'll play more junior footy with Sturt this year, and probably some more senior footy with Mannum when the Double Blues have the bye. He could turn out...
I would agree, i'd be surprised to see Thurstans spend much time in attack too. I think his relative experience will be needed to help out Chaplin and Carlile in defence.
One of the biggest challenges we face this year, even more so than our forward line i think, is developing our defence. There are so many questions regarding how our backline will fare.
1) is Chad Cornes our best option at CHB or should Choco put his confidence in Chaplin to play there the...
I doubt the Crows could have a big turnover of players 2 years in a row, so i think it will only be half the number of players at the most that you've listed there.
I'd be hoping we'd line up something like this in our round 1 pre season game.
FF J Westhoff, Tredrea, Gray
HF Krakouer, C Cornes, Rodan
C Pettigrew, Thomson, Boak
HB Thomas, Chaplin, Stewart
FB Lower, Carlile, Thurstans
Ruck
Deluca
Salopek
K Cornes
INT Williams...
Heres a question to all supporters - what would you prefer - lose a g/f by just under 20 goals or be stuck with the Crows' list and their lack of any genuine young talent. I know what i'd prefer.
Wasn't a good performances but i'm a realist, unlike some other club's supporters who like to ignore their own club's pathetic efforts in not making the finals in consecutive years by focusing on a club that actually did make it.
We could go down the disgraceful, weak, insipid and gutless...
lol a disgrace to come 2nd after rebuilding in extra special quick time, against the trend of Victorian clubs who require 4 or 5 years minimum plus numerous early draft picks.
I dont think we could have 2 of them in the forward line with that build, and also Westhoff had already played 30 or so games of senior footy in the SANFL when he made his AFL debut.
That definitely makes sense. I'd love to see guys like Stewart and Farmer play some footy during the pre season comp, plus lots of minutes for Thomas, Lower, Gray, and maybe even one or 2 of the younger ruckman.
Yes and Big Bob used to encourage the players to take the Victorian club's sign on fees year after year even though they had no intention of going over to the VFL :thumbsu::D
Yes we've recruited some players from interstate, but if we could recruit South Australians solely it would take away the go home factor and would increase the club's ability to recruit youngsters who could more closely identify with the culture of the club. Also, given that we generally never...
Victorian clubs certainly have enjoyed recruiting the best South Austrlaian (and Western Australian) players for the last 30 years or so (I'd certainly be happy to give up the chance to recruit interstate youngsters if it meant we and the Crows could solely recruit from SA).
