When was the last time an opposition mid really tore us apart other than GAJ? I think our midfield started to tighten up a fair bit in the 2nd half of last year
We also had the 2nd least inside 50s against per game last year, as well as the 2nd least clearances against per game
Looking at clearance stats isn't a good way to judge midfields IMO
Just look at round 19 this year vs Essendon. Dyson Heppell had the most clearances for the game yet had very little impact, most of his clearances were ineffective. Essendon won the clearance and the centre clearance stats...
Very happy with that, Grundy beat Simpson despite giving away 4cm, 4kg and 5 years, plus nearly being knocked out twice. Huge shot at the rising star.
White jumped out to a huge lead over Q for that 3rd forward/ruck role in round 1, though Lynch was OK in the ruck.
Macaffer was great too, if...
Beams has great ball winning ability both inside and out, very good disposal on both sides of the body by both hand and foot, can kick 55+, kicks >1 goal a game, one of the best snap shots at goal in the league, can handle a tag, tackles and has no major weaknesses at all, but yeah apart from...
If the goal was paid, the Dogs would have been six points behind with 12 minutes on the clock, having kicked 3 goals in a handful of minutes. I would call that serious trouble.
And whether Essendon 'barely' won or not doesn't really matter, they had to rely on some obscure technicality to beat...
The Dogs were right in that game midway through the last before an advantage call was called back for no apparent reason. If that advantage was paid, Essendon were in serious trouble.
A senior game involving my local club a few years ago,
Them: 1.0 - 2.2 - 2.2 - 2.2 14
Us: 2.1 - 2.1 - 2.1 - 2.1 13
Neither team registered a score in the 2nd half. My team didn't register a score after quarter time.
Was one of the worst days I've ever seen. Ridiculously strong cross wind...
The OP is clearly only talking about one aspect of the umpiring today, which was terrible. If it's a bit wet and you can't bounce it straight, just throw the bloody thing up!
