Seemed to very similar to the West Coast game 5 weeks ago. Both teams had a point to prove, were up a similar margin by half time and, to our credit, we fought it out. Disappointing but we'll learn from it.

To borrow a line off fpm84 from a couple of weeks ago, the most Geelong thing ever would be to win this then lose to the blues the following week.

Their coach, some of their players, some of their fans...I could go on. I also don't buy into the 'all Victorians must support other Victorian clubs' groupthink.

It feels strange that they're no longer a threat this year. Just so used to that empty 'they're going to win it again' feeling every September. What a relief.

Undefeated/lose to rival for sure. Life is so much more fun when you're winning, even if it's just regular games. Also since footy is everywhere in Melbourne, it's much easier to do a media blackout for 3 days after a GF loss than try and avoid footy for 6 months when you're pitiful.

Completely agree with you fpm84. As a female fan, if we don't have a team I couldn't care less about the women's comp.

Still remember that Scott Gullen wrote an article about how the club was 'dying' back in 1999 when we had that massive debt and about 18,000 members. So this news is sweet - well done to all involved.

Hawkin's debut in 2007 had plenty of hype. I don't think he was responsible for selling thousands of memberships though.
