Signs so far suggest that this last off-season was a triumph for recruiting at our club.

And Justin Reeves needs to be included in the list of very valuable additions for mine.

No doubt the Danger factor has played its part. But for numbers to be tracking the way they are in the midst of our latest major construction project at the ground is a fantastic achievement.

Whilst there will always be room for improvement across the club in how the GFC engages with its constituents, there is better interaction evident in a number of key areas already. And I get the strong sense that Reeves is driving these enhancements hard to deliver a better membership experience for everyone.

Being extremely classy on and off the field is where we need to be heading and Reeves strikes me so far as a key figure in taking the club to a whole new level in its standard of 'delivery' to members.

Long may it last.:thumbsu:

We'll sort of. He doesn't have a pet but he signed up some pet cemetery members

What % of the 50,000 do we attribute to the "Dangerfield effect"?
Good question but maybe the better question is how many members joined because we are more likely to win games and then of the wins how much are they because of paddy? I didn't join because of Paddy but I certainly going to more games because of him.

On the game experience side can we please install some sides to the Hoops bar??!!! Would be warmer and touch more atmosphere!!

Harry, Danger, Hawk, Duncan, Blitz and Scotty visited a couple who've been members for 50 years to celebrate the 50k membership mark.

Adorable video: http://www.geelongcats.com.au/news/2016-04-27/cats-surpass-50000-members
What a lovely video, and so good to see the club recognise some long-loyal members like Vic and Bev.

Even if it's just a PR stunt, seeing that makes me feel good about the club. I hope they continue to recognise the importance of the local community and fans, and retain those solid links within Geelong.

I've banged on about the lack of atmosphere at Simonds, but one thing we have is a genuine community history. This is something to be truly proud of. The reality is no AFL club comes near Geelong in terms of local history and roots in the community. We are Geelong!!

All that post was true.

But gee, if we haven't been the "bolded" for the last decade, then no one has.

Our club is respected for its class, and long may it continue.

Also, I think it was great that a couple of long serving members were recognised. :thumbsu:

What a nice touch. Kudos to the club for that...

And here I was, leaving the front door open in the hope...oh well....

Not sure its the "Dangerfield Effect" per sa, more its all the Dangerifeld's and extended family signing up as members;)

Reeves has a great honeymoon period with PFD and the recruits coming in and the on field performance being what it is so far.
The challenge now will be to maintain it.

It wont be the Bev and Kev's he's got to keep. Its the transient members and new members. Done well so far but now the real hard work begins IMO.

Whether we like it or not, other clubs have been demonstrably better than us in some important areas (like member development) over recent times. Through a season of unprecedented success for the GFC, our membership numbers have actually been solid but unspectacular. At the same time, other far less successful clubs on the AFL ladder have continued to steadily increase membership numbers year after year.

I would suggest that we haven't actually been all that classy in areas like member attraction and engagement over the last ten years. There would be plenty of members (me included) who would note that their love for the club has kept them renewing their membership each year rather than a sense that the club truly values and appreciates the commitment its members make.

I think this is also now changing for the better and will be another aspect of the club enhacing its reputation as a leader amongst AFL clubs in how you get it done on the ground and behind the scenes.

Mmmm....yeah......

I think you are misusing the word "class".

class•y
(ˈklæs i, ˈklɑ si)

adj. class•i•er, class•i•est.
Informal. of high quality, rank, or grade; stylish.

I simply believe that our efforts over the years in member attraction and engagement have not been of the highest quality. According to the definition above, that fits OK, as far as I can see.

I think in this context, and general use regarding Footy Clubs, "classy" refers to the manner in which a club holds and conducts itself. Not whether it could improve a few marketing issues with some members.

But anyway.

Geelong still budgeting for $1/2 m loss

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/spo...s/news-story/5ec1f3ac38be8d086a09815219574af0

Geelong’s rapid rise up the ladder this year may not be reflected on their financial balance sheet this season, unless they make the grand final.

Cats chief executive Brian Cook yesterday told The Australian the new premiership favourites could still record a third consecutive loss despite record membership levels and a vastly improved start to the year.

Geelong, who play the Crows in Adelaide on Friday night, sit second on the ladder with six wins and the best percentage (171.5) in the competition. After 15 years of consecutive profits under Cook, the Cats have lost a combined $3.6 million over the past two years and Cook said the club had budgeted for a loss of $500,000 this year.

“We re-forecast every three months, but at this stage I doubt anything will change unless we make the grand final,” Cook said. “We also budgeted for a record 51,000 members which we should hopefully achieve this week.”

The Cats hit a record membership last year of 44,312 but the acquisition of Patrick Dangerfield from the Crows and their good start to the season has enabled the club’s minimum forecast to be met.

At the corresponding time last season, Geelong sat 13th with three wins and a percentage of 84. The Cats had their first sellout crowd this year against West Coast at Simonds Stadium on Saturday, but decent profits are not anticipated again until stage four of their stadium redevelopment is completed at the end of May next year.

Capacity will increase from this year’s limit of 26,500 to 36,000. Cook said while it was unusual to play at Adelaide Oval for the second time in three weeks, he did not believe it would necessarily be an advantage to the Cats.

“It’s hard to win over there,” he said. In round five, Geelong defeated Port Adelaide by 48 points after being sparked by a quarter-time melee.
