MRP / Trib. Webster KO's Simpkin - Update 7 week penalty

    I guess they'll give him 8 then
  2. grimface_87

    Back to the 9

The umpires seem to have reduced their leniency recently to players defending the mark inside the '9' metre goal square imaginary line where previously they gave them quite a bit of latitude to overrun the 9 when there was a mark within before they retreated. Is it time to adjust the field...

    Tarryn Thomas bump on CJ

Why call it a bump? It wasn't a bump
  4. grimface_87

Deliberate is now OK if you need to kick the ball

Hmm if you are being tackled near the boundary line and you handball it straight over they always call it deliberate
  5. grimface_87

Blowing the whistle and calling advantage

The umpire still signals the free kick, just doesn't blow the whistle so it will still get added to the stats

What happens if a club plays a suspended player?

If you actually did it and the game got played the team would be disqualified afterward I imagine, in addition to a 'bringing the game into disrepute' charge Edit: 10.6.1 Entry on Playing Surface Where a person(s) enters the Playing Surface when they are not authorised to do so, the field...

Moved Thread Goal ump to make football history

Isn't it up to the field umpire in the end anyway?

    What's Your Decision?

Agree From my memory (not totally sure, can't find video) Pratt kicked it to himself intending to run past Lloyd along the boundary line. Lloyd cut him off and forced him back toward the goals and as Lloyd was about to tackle him (or did tackle him?) Pratt handballed back over the line. I...

    What's Your Decision?

They have changed the rule since then though. Originally the deliberate rushed behind rule was the same as the deliberate out of bounds rule (i.e. even if you are under pressure it is still deliberate). Later on they changed it to if you are under pressure you can rush a behind (which basically...

Michael Jamison Dropping Knees onto Petrie

It all comes down to te ridiculous way the point system is graded. It could have a huge force but if there is no lasting injury to the player, the impact is "low" or "none". On the other hand even if there is low force but the player has an injury (broken something, etc), force is "high" or...

"The goal umpire was in perfect position"

But the problem with that is they also need to be in line with the goal line in case the ball may be touched.
  14. grimface_87

"The goal umpire was in perfect position"

Yep should have gone with his own decision and not what the field umpire thought. From the field umpire's view it would have looked like a goal

Game time "more than likely" to be reduced from 2012

Just when I thought things couldn't get any crazier: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/arizona-will-be-fixture-for-all/story-e6frf9jf-1226143957844 Surely this is a joke? I'm happy to have trial rules and gimmick rules in the preseason, but please just leave the premiership season alone...

The 50 metre penalty has to be eliminated

25m penalty for minor offences (holding on, over the mark, interchange infringement, etc) and the umpire can double it for serious breaches. EDIT: beaten haha

    A serious question

They are sponsored by OPSM for a reason

Game time "more than likely" to be reduced from 2012

Even getting rid of the bounce (just throwing it up every time) would save time. No recalled bounces or bounce setup time

Game time "more than likely" to be reduced from 2012

They won't let this go: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/afl-quarters-may-be-cut/story-e6frf9jf-1226132656062

Game time "more than likely" to be reduced from 2012

It's just rules being brought in to fix problems that previous rules created. Unfortunately the AFL are too pig-headed to just reverse the previous rule change that caused the issue in the first place. They were the ones who brought in the rule a few years ago that whenever the umpire calls...

Game time "more than likely" to be reduced from 2012

Found this in the staging article on The Age: I heard this was being considered but this seems like it has been escalated. What a terrible change if this comes in. I think a major cause for the longer quarters is the increasing amount of time between when a goal is kicked and the ball is...

Roos Brisbane - Worst umpiring ever?

Umpiring all season has been laughably bad (or would have been if it wasn't deciding games). Unfortunately it seems to be getting worse. Lucky we have Geischen to justify all the calls on "What's Your Decision"

Roos Brisbane - Worst umpiring ever?

The 3 men in green embarrassed themselves today. I can honestly say that was the worst umpired game I have ever seen. We had a few bad calls/non calls against us but Brisbane were incredibly hard done by. The inconsistency in the decisions was baffling.

Players being held up after taking a mark

Should be a 50m penalty straight away (and usually is if it was an uncontested mark)

    Watts is a filthy cheat

Was a free kick exaggerated by Watts. Still a free though.
  26. grimface_87

How much time to kick the ball ?

I'm pretty sure it's (supposed to be) 8 seconds after a mark around the ground and 30 seconds lining up for goal. I have no idea for kickouts

    Positive rule changes

Agree. I also like the "chopping the arms" free, although it is not enforced as much as it should be.

Umpires in red and black tonight

I'm not saying i agree with it. I'm pretty sure it's in the pre-season sponsorship agreement. When Wizard were the sponsors the umps always wore orange.

Umpires in red and black tonight

Correct. NAB colours are Red and Black. As if NAB don't have enough advertising at the game!
