It would be VERY interesting to see the TV ratings on Sunday afternoon when Melb. Storm play.
Don't think they'll get the same type of "audience".....!

I'd predict over 270k for the Storm match, especially with it being a final.

What does the GF usually get?

The 1996 and 2005 Grand Finals rated in the mid-to-high 900,000's in Sydney.

Last year the AFL Grand Final fell on the Sydney long weekend, and the figure, not surprisingly dropped to about 770,000 in Sydney

The NRL Grand Final is held on the Sydeny long weekend every year and twice every 7 years this happens to be the same weekend as the AFL Grand Final. The NRL GF in Sydney always rates less in Sydney than it does in Brisbane (proportionally) because it is always on this long weekend when people often go away.

Last years figure of 770,000 would have been in the mid 900,000's (like in 2005) if it was on a normal Sydney weekend.

This year the AFL Grand Final falls on the Sydney long weekend again, as it did last year (in 2008 it will be back to normal) so I wouldn't expect a huge TV figure for Sydney next week. 300-350K next week.

When the Swans are not involved in the GF, the rating in Sydney is in the 300,000's in the Saturday afternoon timeslot.

I'm hoping for a big TV audience tomorrow. Last year ther Storm drew about 400,000 in Melbourne for their Saturday night Preliminary Final.

I'd expect 350,000-400,000 tomorrow afternoon.

If they make the GF next Sunday night expect an audience of about one million, just like last year.

To make a case for a second team just using this argument, won't work. The AFL needs to rate well during the season.

I agree that is the last bastion .
If Sydney draws regular viewers equivalent to WA or SA that would seal the issue .We have the participation figures Equal to WA and SA .
At the current rate of growth in NSW and the large population there is the potential to pull clear of those two states
We have the crowd figures and the stadia .
We have the blockbusers at T.S. and the addition of a Sydney derby
and cross town rivalry .
We have the ratings for the GF and now the finals .
So yes , general season ratings would seal the issue .

Not bad at all given it was a Saturday afternoon and a blowout. That's an average over 3.5 hours remember.
