AFL Player # 1: Andrew "Pidge" McGrath (VC)

I think McGrath is a rarer type of player than McCluggage. McCluggage might end up better, might suit a need, whatever, but rarity adds value too. We'll sort out our midfield issues more easily than finding another Pidge.
With Fantasia and Walla spending a little time in the middle we may have turned the problem of a lack of goal kicking midfielders on it's head anyway

Did anyone else hear on SEN today, when they were talking up Essendon, and one of the RS judges (I think it was Kingy?) said flat out "I love the kid. I shouldn't say this... But what the hell I reckon this guy will win it!" and they all went mental that he'd felt so strongly about it he not only commentated but actually made a prediction!

Gaunny be a lot of bhurt Hawthorne fans at the end of the year ;)

Very similar start to his career as Heppell's. has quickly become an automatic selection in the back line, a reliable player who makes very few errors and does a great job overall. A real pleasure to watch!!

It could be just because it's fresher, but I think that Pidge is a lot more composed than Heppell was in his first year (and that's saying something because Hepp is a very cool player).

Third at the club for intercept possessions with 44 for the season. Averaging 5.5 per game he's ahead of second place Baguley (5 per game) and behind only Hurley who is monstering 7.7 per game and 70 for the season.

Stats are stats, but this is ridiculous for a kid in his first season who still plays accountable football and can mind a dangerous forward.

He's first class! Could be anything!

Another stat that jumps out to me is Baguley's Disposal Efficiency. He is undervalued around here.

1. Disposal Efficiency is a dumb stat that doesn't actually measure what it's supposed to measure.
2. Defenders always average a high DE.
3. You overrate Baguley a lot.

First is from somebody who works at CD. They created too many loopholes for it to be an effective measurement of how good a player uses the ball.

I wasn't talking exclusively about your post or that one point, eth.

I don't think he's necessarily more composed. Dyson was pretty smooth in his first year from the get-go.

There is lessons you still need to learn young Jedi. Opinions are good, discussion is good, learning is also good as is agreeing to disagree and not dragging the point on for ever.

As for McGrath , how good is his ability to see the game unfolding. You think shit he is going to get tackled here and he fires out a handball that hits a target in minimal time. His close in skill and vision is next to none. Also good to see he is starting to take the game on more as the weeks roll on.
Even if he does not win a rising star or ends up being the best of the draft he will still be a super star so it will not matter a rats.

Watching last nights game I think Andy may have some serious competition for his RS award in Ryan Burton. Looks to be a classy player, he just wears a gross jersey.

Was very keen on Burton in his draft year, as was hoping he'd slip due to missing a year, but alas.
