Past #1: Daniel Currie - officially traded to Gold Coast in exchange for a third round selection (#53)

Daniel Currie?! I'm assuming you hadn't hooked up your Foxtel in time or were fishing somewhere when he turned out the filth he did earlier in the season.

His dropped mark - faceplant in the turf was a highlight of his shitness.

Holy cow the wheels are well and truly off at the moment.

Next suggestion will be to bring Leigh Brown out of retirement to improve our physicality.

I'm seriously thinking about driving down to Albany tomorrow to check up on you.

Goldy needs a message that his current efforts are not good enough, so I'm not opposed to seeing him dropped. All the critical game analysis in the world doesn't hurt like being dropped.

I'm not confident that Currie will do much better, but he's next in line, so it's him.

People shouldn't be concerned about how much worse off we'd be given Todd's form.

trade him. Or Maj, one or the other, keep one as backup if Ben Brown or Goldstein get injured.
could do well somewhere he can consistently get a game, with Todd Goldstein he wont get that at North.
we don't need him and Maj, hopefully Beast gets good enough to be in contention soon, so we won't need either of them

As bad as people may think Currie and Majak Daw are they'll both look like Gary Dempsey rolled into Polly farmer when compared to big Eric Wallace.

Wallace will never play a senior AFL game.

I reckon Currie will want out and am sure he's better than three games over two seasons. I think if Curries given a decent go he'll be ok.

Won't though be in front of Brown, Petrie and Daw as the second ruck/forward option. If Goldie goes down we're in a spot of bother. But would think Petrie, Brown and Daw could get the job done to an acceptable level in the short term.

Rubbish. You need 3-4 rucks on your list, and we need a competent backup for Goldy if he is injured. Brown should only be used to pinch hit in the ruck, same for Maj.

On Wallace - even if he never plays a senior game it is a positive that we drafted him. It provides us with the ability to understand how to develop someone from a non-footy background.

#1 Daniel Currie

Games: 4
Goals: 3

Summary:
After spending six seasons on both Sydney and North Melbourne's list without playing a senior game, Currie finally broke through to make his debut at the young age of 25. Currie was included in the team to play the Western Bulldogs in Round 2 this season, performing solidly with six touches, three marks, nine hitouts, two tackles and a goal. He kept his spot in the team for the following week against Port Adelaide, struggling with the intensity of the game and dropping simple marks close to goal. He was taken out of the team for the Round 4 clash against the Swans at a water-logged SCG, but was straight back in against Collingwood afterwards. Despite kicking a goal, Currie failed to impose himself on the game, and was sent back to the VFL.

He suffered a broken scapula which required time on the sidelines, hurting his chances of getting back in the senior side. With several senior players rested on the eve of the finals, Currie was recalled for Todd Goldstein in Round 23 against Melbourne. He won 36 hitouts, gathering five disposals, taking three marks, laying six tackles and kicking a major. This performance as the solo ruckman will be in the minds of the list management staff when deciding whether Currie will still be wearing blue and white in 2015.

Seven years in the making, Daniel Curriewill finally get his chance to debut against the Bulldogs.

Pretty big call. I disagree.

actually I take that back. Johnathon Griffen for freo and Giles (this year) for GWS were probably two better options.

on his output this year he was still the best VFL ruckman.

To judge him off 4 games at AFL level when he wasn't even playing in his best position isn't really fair on crusher. If (big if) he ever gets an extended crack at it, I'm sure he would make a solid AFL ruckman.

Back up insurance. Thought he'd go to the rookie list, can't help but think he has been retained purely because of Daw's situation.

Brown has offered more and is ahead of Currie in the pecking order. Nice knowing though we have a quality back up if needed.

Completely different player, I'm not a big Currie fan but if (heaven forbid) Goldy went down with a long term injury, you'd want crusher filling in for him not brown

Dan Currie seems to invite more negative fodder than most and I've never understood why.

The bloke is a ready to go 1st ruck if additional support or an emergency is needed. He's got a great attitude, has bulked up nicely and as 25yo big man is still developing.

He contests and marks strongly, possibly a stronger mark than Goldie. But because he spilt some marks after making good position in his 1st 3 AFL games he's a dud apparently.

Sam Gibson debuted older than Dan is now iirc and even though he had AFL rookie list experience and an accomplished VFL record he still took a couple of years to iron out his disposal and physicality. He certainly wasn't a world beater in his 1st 3 games. Plus he's a midfielder vs a ruckman in terms of development age.

At worst Currie is an AFL standard marking ruck who can cover for Goldie or even Brown if things go awry injury-wise.

Currie is the best "ruckman" on the list behind Goldy. Brown etc are nice stop gaps for small portions of the game but they're not adept at rucking the majority of game time, and giving our midfielders best use. Currie has shown that he is more than capable - and in the event of a Goldy injury/rest - Currie should automatically come in IMO.
