WTF? Jed Anderson on the outer? Or perhaps HG will be running off the half back? Perhaps forward? Reckon he would improve the forward line.. 🤔 interesting..

Greenwood and Noble were at the Crows together.

Noble has been on to him a long time.

“He and ‘Nobes’ (former Head of Football David Noble) even came and visited me in the States. When they made the effort to get over there and have a look, that’s when I knew I was going to trust them.

Noble tried to get him to Brissy too

Sounds like Noble wants him as a coach too.

Looks like Noble sniffed a chance and a long time relationship paid off.

Hugh Greenwood is best mates with Ben King as well.

I might have made that up…haha

Was going to ask about this for those who have watched Hugh Greenwood at length.

He's 3 years older than Dumont and plays a defensively minded mid role.

What's the logic here? That's not a veiled disagreement - I haven't watched this bloke enough to judge his merits vs Dumont.
He is a genuinely big boy. Not a great kick. Excellent overhead and can play forward.

Best tackler in the competition and elite clearance player. Different player to froggy. Defensive yes, but different defensively if that makes sense

The 29-year-old suffered a medial ligament injury in round 17 this year and although he failed to appear in Suns’ colours again, he was deemed fit prior to the end of the season. He is expected to be ready for day one of pre-season training.

North Melbourne GM of Football Talent Brady Rawlings said that Greenwood’s signing was a departure from the club’s recent strategy of targeting young talent, but the opportunity to sign a player of his calibre was too good to pass up.

“Clearly we’ve gone down the path of bringing in youth the past couple of years but we’re always on the lookout to improve the list,” Rawlings said.

“At 191 centimetres, Hugh’s a big-bodied midfielder who can push forward or back. Every club is on the lookout for this type of player so we knew we had to act quickly when he became available.

“Hugh liked what we’re doing here at North and wanted to be part of it. It’s fair to say we were pretty pumped when he told us he was keen to come to Arden St.”

Rawlings said Greenwood would add size and aggression to the Roos’ talented batch of emerging midfielders.

“Hugh was the number one pressure player and tackler in the league across 2020 and ’21 until he was injured. Add that to his leadership capabilities and A-grade character and you’ve got someone who perfectly complements our young midfield group.

“Nobes (coach David Noble) actually recruited Hugh to Adelaide back in 2015 and knows him intimately. When he came onto the market it was unanimous among our list management team that we should accelerate our interest. Once everything checked out we looked to get his signature.”

He's really nothing like Dumont.

I think the club has seen how much we struggled without Cunners and probably view this as a cost free insurance policy to let the big fella recover at his own pace with no pressure to return.

He led the AFL in tackles in 2020.

Greenwood is a 6"4/92kg inside beast. Like a poor mans Cripps. He can take a grab and kick a goal though.

Very much Cunners insurance imo.

They might compliment each other just nicely. It could get messy for opposition mids with these two blokes on the hunt.

I might be reading too much into this, but it sounds like we made an offer to Hugh that GC couldn't match.

Most likely that he went back to them and said "North have a 2 year offer worth $X on the table, can you match it?" GC couldn't, so he went with the better offer.

It's the risk you run, playing DFA games. Funny watching the anti-North clowns on BF already calling Greenwood a back stabber though. Literally every other club would do this if they could.
