I'd love to see mahony either play on ball and get himself 30 at high % disposal or do exactly what Curtis has done, which has been get some clinical finishes around goal
He's playing like a stodgy midfielder at the moment and does not - and never will - have the body for it. Bravery is to be commended, but he will not have a long career at AFL level playing like that IMO. His body will not cope for mine.

In response to Zondor's question, a few other small forwards this weekend...
Higgins 5
Bailey 3
Weightman 5
Ryan 3
Raechele 2
Pickett 3
Hill 2

Mahony has seven goals in his last 15 games and never more than one in that patch.
One two goal game in career and kicked nine last season.
He ain't all bad, he he also isn't a productive or dangerous small forward.

He is getting 13 possessions a game and not kicking goals. Of the 13, he is averaging 3.6 clangers a game and going at 66% disposal and 55% by foot. They aren't great numbers. His pressure numbers however are good, 3.6 tackles for a forward is well above the curve.

But asking questions of how he is going or suggesting he deserves a run in the 2nds now are very legitimate discussion points.

no problem with suggesting a run in the twos, it might be better for him long term. what i don't have a lot of time for is the people who think he should be banished never to see seniors again. completely devalues the good work he's done in the past, as if that was some kind of fluke and he's never going to able to get to that output or beyond ever again.

Of those, he's essentially at the same career point as Pickett and Weightman, who look like they could be AAs in the future, and Raechele has gone past him in 5 games.I have no idea what his long term position is.

What part of his output has ever been a fluke? Did he kick 5 in game? Get 30 touches in a couple of games?

Not a small forward.

Needs to go back to VFL and play midfield.
Get it 40 times and we’ll see
and then it'll be trying to cram him into our already stocked midfield. Once you get anderson cunnington and thomas back no chance for him. he was a speculative pick at the time with his lack of speed size and distance kicking. Don't see a role for him in future once you get curtis and even spicer in

It should work on performance not from past deeds or name of player.
Every decent midfield has blue collar workers - can’t all be cream of the draft.
It’s really what our one way midfield needs - might not be mahony but you never know

He's not squeezing in there. I rate him but if he wants/needs to be a midfielder then we trade him out. If he goes back to the magoos he needs to be in the forward or back 6.

Could he play midfield? We’ve got so many in there atm. But if he’s a good runner, tackles hard, he could be a nice inside mid. He has competitiveness that our players are honestly lacking RN.

I love his efforts and his 1% but I reckon we should try something different with him and see whether he can make it his own.

has really consolidated his position as atleys replacement of the teams whipping boy.

got a lot of work to do however if he is to reach the level of liam anthony.
