Bloke literally puts his body on the line and gets his shoulder smashed. Has probably been in under the knife in hospital and is completely incapacitated for weeks.

Keyboard warriors then proceed to bag him out, question his character and his place on an AFL list - one week after he actually played a pretty good game.

There’s a fair bottom feeder element around here. And I don’t mean of the human centipede type variety.
Are you sure cos alot of the same shit gets regurgitated around here.

Ok, so now that’s public I have something to say - this is from me, no-one else.

Imagine all you ever want to do is play football. You experience the dream of being drafted. Now, after four coaches and the repeat of a bad injury from putting your body on the line, you come out of surgery knowing you have zero more chances to show why you should get another contract and be part of building out of the disaster that has been your AFL journey so far.

I hear a lot (and have felt a lot) of how hard this time is for supporters. It’s pretty ****ing grim on the other side of the fence.

Agree, just like kayno the bloke busts his guts. Theres planty of more talented blokes that could take a lot on how much mahony and turner have gotton out of themselves,
Blokes like Mahony and Turner just ooze professionalism and train diligently. They try and play their guts out because they don't have the tools. Unfortunately they don't have the elite attributes to turn into stars so they try and make up for it through training and hard work.
If the guys who "think" they are stars and trained as well as these two, they'd actually be stars or superstars. Victims of their own ego. Instead they become "also rans" to coin the racing term.

I look at Boomer who had a fantastic career. He could have just had an above average 200 game career but from all accounts, was in the gym first and was always the last to leave. His preparation and dedication was second to none. He could have passed 450 and even 500.

I can't fault Mahony for not trying. I hope he recovers well and I think he deserved a dedicated run of games.

Too true mate. Could well be the end of his career, a dream that he has had since being a young kid. Anyone who has dreamed to reach the highest level knows how heartbreaking (emotionally and physically) an injury like this could be to a fringe and uncontracted player.

Great analysis and puts it in perspective.

I suspect this will be career over for him

Shattered for Jack, has always come across as someone with a great attitude. Hopefully this injury isn't the end of his AFL journey.

Kayne Turner sends his regards

I feel it more because he’s my friend’s son, but it’s sad seeing how many adults have fun saying this stuff about a kid who has done nothing but be chosen in the draft and selected to play at AFL and VFL level, and is trying his hardest. If you have kids or you know any, have a think.
fwiw i dont blame him

i blame luff for choosing him over chad warner

Tough little bugger, selfless and a team first player. Wish Jack well in his recovery.

Mahony impresses in defeat for Kangaroos

Teenager Jack Mahony shook off a shoulder injury to produce a big play during North Melbourne's AFL loss to Collingwood on Monday night.

Rhyce Shaw didn't have to search hard for an example of the commitment he wants from his North Melbourne players for the rest of the AFL season.

But it did come from what could seem like an unlikely source - his shortest and lightest player.

Jack Mahony was crunched in a huge tackle by Collingwood midfielder Levi Greenwood during the Kangaroos' 30-point loss on Monday night, hurting his left shoulder in the process.

The 19-year-old didn't flinch in his next act as he won a 50-50 ball against strong-bodied opponent Taylor Adams to set up an important goal for teammate Bailey Scott in the second quarter.

"We actually showed it at half-time," North Melbourne coach Shaw said post-match.

"It was a great effort and he probably wouldn't have had to deal with something like that at this level.

"The way he did it was fantastic but I don't expect anything less from the kid because that's just what he's about."

Poor little bugger. He was very good against St Kilda, just gutted for him he goes down in the next match.

Maybe did enough to warrant a re-rookie spot at the end of the year?
It's harsh but we have held onto players too long in the past and rookie list is an extension of that.
