Further to this, if you ever do find yourself in the position where someone reaches out to you, how will you respond? What will you say?

It's worth acquainting yourself with a few pointers in this regard, because how you react, and what you say, can make a very big difference, or no difference at all.

For example, it's not a time for speaking euphemistically. It's actually very important to ask directly: "are you thinking of killing yourself?"

I am far from an expert in this area, but am required to complete basic mental health awareness training for my job. I hadn't imagined there would be much to it but I was shocked to learn I was completely unprepared were I to ever find myself in such circumstances.
This is a really good point to make . Well done for posting it

Devastating news.

Without reading the whole thread today, does anyone know if there are any underlying issues other than possible depression which could be a factor in him jumping?

Did hear that a split up with his missus might have played a role, breakups can have a serious impact on people, especially young men.

My mother took her own life seven years ago she was a kind gentle lady who cared for everyone there is no logic to these events when you have depression. The mind is unwell and it is only when you get through the other side of being well that life takes on a new perspective .

Maj is one of the more loveable player of the last few years and I pray he gets through to the other end . As he has been amazing person for his community and the club.

I'm honestly struggling so much today. Haven't got a thing done. Just heartbroken for him, and as others have allured to, it brings back thoughts of personal experiences of mh.

Same. I'm all over the place so can't imagine how those closer and the man himself are feeling. Bloody sad day but I'm hopeful and incredibly thankful that Maj is still with us and has a chance to keep living and loving.

Couldn't even believe it when I just heard about it, its always the ones putting on the bravest face and ear to ear smiles going through the worst of it. I don't think we'll ever know why he wanted to do this if it was true except himself, and frankly don't need to. Just as long as he's alright.

Usually these things happen when people are at their happiest, and they don't wanna lose it and so they resort to really silly decisions out of fear and anxieties that things might go south again or impulses with relationship problems.

Either way, all the best to Maj, I'm glad he's alright but as a North supporter I hope his injury hasn't killed his career. I love to watch him play, and he's a top bloke to boot.

^^^^^ This .... I work as a mental health clinician. Privacy is paramount.

Problem is in this day and age of the 24/7 news cycle and social media people like to gossip and dig for the next story.

Instead of the media and social media focusing on Maj and why or what he may have done, maybe they should shine a light on the fact that 42 men take their own lives each week and many more try and work towards trying to solve issue.
But I guess it's easier to pop up a news story on Maj and then show the lifeline number and the disclaimer they all say, rather than run a story on the real issue.

Thank you for the great work you do for our community. Those of us who have turned to your industry for help, know and appreciate just how important you are.

Massive shock. Incomprehensible in many ways.

FYI: I’m on Tapatalk. The ‘picture’ that comes up for this thread in the main menu is Fonz ‘jumping the shark’. It’s a bit disconcerting and given the circumstances, not really appropriate. Mods, out of respect can we change that please?

Also, well played BF.

Don't know about you guys but I haven't done a bloody second of work since I heard the news.
I have just got home from work and still shaken by the news. My heart goes out to the big man and his family. This is where football clubs come into their own and will no doubt offer him the support he requires. Rest up Shinboner.

Shows you how much of a beast out boy Maj really is, falls 25m and only breaks a hip.
it's been bothering me all day, i was so happy for him that he finally started reaching his potential, does things that no one in the AFL can and has a very contagious smile.

i really hope they can put him back together physically and Mentally.
If he can come back from tihs then he will be an inspiration to everyone.

It comes in waves but unfortunately there are some pretty high profile incidents that involve African assailants. Having said that, they mentioned a home invasion by a white teen last week so they are consistent. I think it is just the events like home invasions are new to the city in this amount and it has been african teens doing it. Same as Islamic terrorists or Pedophile priests. The vast majority of each group are law abiding and amiable, but the fringe cause the issues.
Yeah, its more than that though.. the articles are inspired to hate.. people seriously hate blacks after the constant murdoch media pressure and its politically motivated! The play on fear and hate.. the white fella that did the home invasion wasnt splashed out on the front page was he?

The rumours and innuendo can’t piss off and means nothing to Majak or the club.
What matters is Majak, and our club and our supporters will pull him through and he will be a stronger person at the end. Luckily this drastic cry for help didn’t end in tragedy.

Get well Maj ! And you will !

Ps: just had my 6yr old ask what happened to Majak after seeing a news break. Wow. How to handle this conversation ?!
