Speaking of Majak, I have to give him kudos.

My boys met him for the first time on the Gold Coast at a pre-season training camp a couple of years back. Then they met him again when we attended training at Arden St while on holidays this year and he remembered them.

Since then he somehow found me on Twitter/Instagram and started following. Occasionally he 'likes' a photo of the boys or leaves them a brief message.

It's super nice of him. He certainly doesnt need to ... but it makes their day!

Majak is a pretty amazing kid. I used to keep some contact with him when he was first rookied and he was incredibly humble back then.

I'm not too sure if he has fallen into the football system since, the contact is definitely lesser but he is one bloke I hope makes it above a lot of others. To see him tearing it up is certainly a dream.

hi Qr,

I may have left the odd NM toy at Koala House, but not anything like what you saw, and we travelled over In 2007.

I think there is something wrong with our little Ethiopian; he follows the Saints, mostly because of the Tip Rat.

As a distance runner, I was expecting to see athletes everywhere. instead it was stange to see every grassy area in the city occupied by goats, sheep or kids playing soccer.

Sing out if you guys ever come to Perth for a game.

Wow! Small World! My wife and I smiled as we read your post just now. :)

We've been back to Ethiopia a few times since adopting the boys and yes, Ethiopians are soccer mad. Both our boys have played soccer the past two years and are carving it up. They do Auskick as well but up here they're not allowed to start tackling until Under 9s so will start club football then. The AFL guys did tell me the other day the boys are tall enough and good enough to play Under 11s now - so they may play both Under 9s and 11s ... and soccer (have to keep their mother happy!)

So sad to hear your boy supports the Saints. Clearly it's nature, not nurture! LOL

Amazing story.

Just read it to my wife and when i showed the photos she burst out crying. Beautiful boys!!!

Huge effort.

I'm just wondering. Do you make sure they have contact with their own kind and people? One thing I've learnt is I'm so thankful Australia opened it's doors to my family and I (And others from my country), but it's really hard to identify with my motherland. Especially because I was born here.

You will do them a HUGE favour in letting them NOT forget where they came from.

That's amazing, top job QRoo.

Can't wait to see them in them in the Blue and white for real:)

Hey Crazy,

We took them back to Ethiopia this year - to see where they were born and to experience the culture. Our plan is to be in Ethiopia with the boys every few years. We are involved in a number of humanitarian projects there so it's kind of our way of giving back to the nation that allowed us to become parents.

The church we are part of has a good number of Africans in it so the boys are not short of African friends.

There's a lot of problems in Africa but we are always trying to emphasise the positives (amazing people; stunning scenery; beautiful animals; phenomenal athletes etc etc) so that they are proud of their heritage.

Majaks 2012 VFL stats.

Games: 17
Goals: 14
Behinds: 8
Disposals: 208 (12.3)
Kicks: 132 (7.8)
Kick efficiency: 62.1%
Handballs: 76 (4.5)
Handball efficiency: 68.4%
Marks: 60 (3.5)
Contested marks: 33 (2)
Tackles: 89 (5.3)
Hitouts: 363 (21.3)

Amount of disposals and disposal efficiency are not good enough.

Tackles and contested marks are good.

We need more goals from Maj.

Tough to ask for more goals given the role he's playing. 14 goals from 17 games is better than the 12 from 19 he put up last year.

12 disposals a game also isn't too bad. I'd be willing to bet most of them were contested (this is where the NicNat comparison is valid), hence the disposal efficiency issues because I think he's a very good kick for his size. Needs a tank so he can get it on the outside more often.

I'm very excited about Maj. I hope his attitude is good and he flogs himself in the preseason.

Great story QR! Put a tear in my wife's eyes............... and a trickle in mine too :)

Our family has very close ties to Ethiopia, and my baby bro even stronger with India. He and his wife also, only just missed the opportunity to adopt in Ethiopia, but with that door closed, another in the form of surrogacy opened in India.

After 8 months of patient waiting, twins were born, boy and girl, Adye and Lilah. Unfortunately during my brother and his wife's flight to India to bring their newborns home, Adye passed away, the little man wasn't quite strong enough to go on.

Almost 9 months have past and little Lilah is growing up so fast, the smile she puts on our families faces is priceless.

Disappointingly for Lilah, her dad is a "one eyed" Richmond member, and he has a very good mate that used wear #12 for Richmond............. her godfather is also that same #12 :thumbsu:

And Goldstein had an average of 12.2 disposals (5.4 kicks, 6.8 handballs), and 0.1 goals per game in 2012.

Now I know you will argue you cannot compare AFL with VFL, but really when you take each of their respective experience in the game into account are his stats really that bad???? And is there really any point in big noting yourself by putting a heap of useless stats up to bag a bloke in a public forum?

Big ups, my man.

I'm sure it's already been mentioned elsewhere, but I thought it was worthy of it's own thread. Surely now that Majak has been promoted, the cats and Hamish rumours have to be at fever pitch. Interesting to see if Majak gets a game or not next year, could arguably the ruck/forward we've been looking for to help out Goldy, or alternitively he could be a total flop.
Thoughts?

If we are now in the business of promoting majik I recommend this guy:

Before anyone says this means Hamish is 100% gone, he has a contract for 2013 and the rookie list rules stipulate a player can only spend 3 years on a rookie list, so Majak was always going to be upgraded.

Just thought I better clear that up.

With Majak's promotion, Mullet's elevation and Gibson's two year deal, I'm assuming he too is being promoted? That would make three additions to the senior list before the draft or trade week.

Or is Gibbo being left on the rookie list despite the new deal?
