Mmmmm, do you guys think we may be hanging on to rookies for too long? Seem to get too invested in them which stops us from being active in the draft.

I think we have done alright in regards to rookies of late. Lynch and Mangan were cut after a year.Mmmmm, do you guys think we may be hanging on to rookies for too long? Seem to get too invested in them which stops us from being active in the draft.

Get the feeling these guys are good enough to help us make finals but to make top four? Don't think so.I think we have done alright in regards to rookies of late. Lynch and Mangan were cut after a year.
Gibbo and Mullett are AFL list quality and Max Warren showed enough as a small defender to play plenty of senior VFL footy.

More potato than meat.Mullet? Yes.
Gibson? He's a good solid meat and potatoes player.
Did you watch Paul Puopolo on Saturday?
Personally i see us as using our rookie list in a very innovative way. Some picks we use for long development options Maj, Warren, Mullett the others we have used on speculative high risk high reward players the mature age boom or bust you got a year to prove yourself types Pedo, Gibbo, Lynch, Mangan.
Do agree with Gibbo being a little Vanilla. That said not everyone has to be X factor, solid dependable workhorses are just a necessary. Question is if we bring in Caddy and Stevens where would Gibbo fit?
More than happy for us to keep using round 1+2 picks only and trial 3 rookies a year in the aim of gaining 1 worth promotion. 3rd round and beyond is almost as speculative as rookie spots.
When did you make the other 4,986 posts?BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!
Sunday. When did you make the other 4,986 posts?
Gibbo was playing a predominantly outside role this year, along with Basti and Anthony. If we are able to get Caddy in we would have the luxury of moving Wells outside a little more, forcing one of those three or Macmillan out of the 22.Question is probably irrelevant as highly doubtful we will get either. However if we did get 1 of them there is still Liam Anthony to consider......
Gibbo being an in an under type player - Caddy / Stevens would be better placed replacing LA as outside runners I would think.
Gibson really should be playing inside though.Gibbo was playing a predominantly outside role this year, along with Basti and Anthony. If we are able to get Caddy in we would have the luxury of moving Wells outside a little more, forcing one of those three or Macmillan out of the 22.
His attributes are better suited to an outside role for our team though, especially considering the types we have who do play inside.Gibson really should be playing inside though.
Any other team and he would be inside. It's not our fault we will have the best inside midfield brigade ever. His attributes are better suited to an outside role for our team though, especially considering the types we have who do play inside.
I wish!!Any other team and he would be inside. It's not our fault we will have the best inside midfield brigade ever.

In allseriouslyness though, he ain't bad inside, and good for VFL level, but Cunners, JZ, Swallow and Wells are all better. He might get a gig inside at a few clubs but at the minute he provides us with good outside run and carry and does so all day long, which is an area of weakness for our younger players, hence his recruitment in the first place.
You mean during the period in which he could hardly walk during the week due to chronic OP?Back to the role he struggled in for most of his career?
Maybe and I hope he does for our sake.Sam has shown in one season on an AFL list that he is up to standard as an AFL footballer after one season on an AFL list.
I'm not particularly directing the next comment at you but there's no reason to see why he won't improve further going by his reported commitment to his football. It's too early to view Sam as being mostly superfluous to the big picture. He could very well end up tracking along a career path like another like minded individual who was just as dedicated to his football, namely, John Blakey.
Or alternatively he goes down the path of another promoted rookie in Cam Pederson and doesn't get a game next year...Maybe and I hope he does for our sake.

Why not?Where will Majak play the 95% of the match that sooky Goldy won't let him ruck?
Can't have Daw/Petrie/Tazzalenko/Hansen in the forward 50 together.
Why not?
I am currently fantasising about a Nth Melbourne forward line consisting of Daw, Petrie, Tarrant, Hansen, Harvey and Thomas...
Wouldn't that scare a few defences!
