To be honest, I can't argue with what Sumich is saying. With any other job, this would have been treated as leave without pay.
Really think it’s worth fighting with Ben about

The precedent here could lead to blokes saying I won't travel to the next away game because my wife has a flu, and she has kids to look after, or my grandmother has a birthday. I mean, in all seriousness, players haven't missed games in the past for family reasons other than child birth or very serious medical emergencies. Now we have these situations where it's ok to simply not travel because you could be away for up to 3 weeks and you have kids at home. I would imagine that half the team could find a very good reason why they would rather stay home. List of 42 may not be enough if blokes like Goldy and Ziebell et al would have adopted the same attitude. But given they are highly paid professionals, it's ok to question this in my opinion.

I realize not many agree with me, but this is my take on it.

Each to their own. To me when you sign a 600k per year contract, you do the job wherever and whenever it's required. And do it well.
The club literally sat them down and gave them this option, with them acknowledging how god awful hubs were previously and that this could last the rest of the season. This isn't a case of Ben calling them up 30 minutes before the flight and saying he wasn't coming.

Nah that’s not true. I took leave to help out my wife and was paid my normal wage. I’m a carpenter and we have a union. It’s probably true for people working in sectors without a decent union though.

Yes. But does signed contact state that you may need to relocate away from your family for anywhere from 7 days to a full season ( last year ).
If it does and you signed that then I fully agree.
Contracts state working conditions, and I could be totally wrong but I would be pretty sure that wouldn't be a working condition in a footballers contract.

My take is you have no idea what's going on in Bens 4 walls.
